I woke up at the first alarm and got up fairly early as well. Mippies were zooming around madly, but they weren't in cuddle mode. Disappointed, I left for work ha ha!
When I got outside, I found my landlords two larger dogs just outside my gate, as I tried to open it, one of them wriggled under the gate into my garden. Once the gate was open, they both jumped on me, tails wagging! Somehow they had managed to get out of their garden! There was no light on, yet, so I didn't want to call my landlord. I left my gate open, since both doggies went and sat by the far fence - the one separating my garden from the one they should be in. They'll stay there, until my landlord comes to take them back where they belong - and my kitties have something to watch!
The road was ... dangerous. It's still dark now, and some suicidal maniac was driving in the oncoming traffic lane to pass just about everyone. I got lucky entering the old road, though: a truck was turning into my road as I was coming out, which gave me a gap.
They've now built rumble strips just outside Bon Accord - sigh, I was going about 20 km/h and I felt my teeth rattle! Traffic came to nearly a halt due to those - they built them yesterday, we saw them, when we were dropping off my pots and soil.
It's a short day at work today, and I can't wait to get home and start potting!
On a positive note, the weather has been very pleasant all week, today it's even raining! I think we finally went below the 30 Celsius mark this week - yay! Today, I'm actually almost cold at work - what a lovely change! I may even finally enjoy the luxury of a hot bath tonight! I still have had only the one occasion - I've been showering all this time, since a cold shower is pleasant, a cold bath is not.
When I got home, we had no electricity. I don't know whether it was due to the rain - maybe there was a thunderstorm here? - or whether it was load shedding. I only noticed because I tried to wash my hands. No problem for me, though, as I was planning on spending time outside, anyway.
I did, however, change into a long sleeve top and pants! And then I went outside ... I was like a kid in a candy store: what should I do? Where should I start? It had rained quite a bit here, so the ground was lovely and soft - ideal for pulling out weeds! But ... three of my seedlings desperately needed re-potting ... ai, ai, ai!
I started by re-potting the Bush Beans! Since I didn't pat down the soil, the bag didn't fill the pot completely and I had quite a bit left over. When I carefully lifted the beans out, I could see that they were all two plants grown together - confirming that every single seed produced a seedling! I gently separated the two plants and gave them their new home, then watered them a little. I used the water from the large watering can, which is always placed under the downspout, so it's always full. Then I washed my hands in the 'puddles' which had collected on my chairs.
I also re-potted the Zucchini and the Butternut. One of those had a root which dangled down to my elbow! High time it got to deeper ground! I just hope the pot is deep enough ... it will have to be, at least for now!
When those were done, I couldn't help but start pulling those horrible thorny octopus plants out! They've got a thick taproot, which is quite firmly stuck in the dry ground - but when the ground is as thoroughly soaked, as it was today, you can dig until you can get hold of it, then twist it back and forth until it's loose - and then it comes out! No, of course I didn't get them all out - some of the roots are still stuck in the ground. But I made a lot of headway!
When I didn't react fast enough to Mewthos' demands for attention, he simply jumped onto my back and made himself comfortable while he waited for me to make time for him! Every mip came mipping for a share of my attention - I made a lot of time for my mippies as well!
I only stopped working when it got too dark, and I could no longer see what I was grabbing ... a mippie tail might get in the way!
The clouds were clearing since I got home, but now I hear it's raining again. Lovely! I moved all three of the new pots away from the house, so they'll all three get a lovely fresh shower now as well!
I decided to go sit outside - just for the sheer pleasure of enjoying the rain! Okay, so I had to put on a jacket, since it was lovely and cold outside - but I loved it! The clouds were indeed clearing and I could see the stars twinkling in the gaps.
I enjoyed a lovely, leisurely hot bath ... with only one interruption: When mippies decided the bathroom is much nicer with the curtains open! Sigh! Fortunately I can close them from the bath, although I do have to get up to do so.
Well, it's past eight again, so I'll now enjoy a lovely, leisurely, relaxing ... sleep!
