Exiled to the garden

It's not even nine o'clock and I've been quite active! Two loads of laundry are hanging in the bathroom, I've swept the whole place - yeah, just swept, not washed the floors. And the Zucchini and Butternut are already planted in the garden!

I still have room in my bed, so I'm trying to decide which to exile next - Watermelon or Cucumber?

I'm planning on cleaning the ground in front of those beds, but I will have to make some sort of plan to keep myself a pathway open to the bed, so I CAN clean and feed the plants! Boy, oh boy, I really started something there, didn't I?

Well it's almost two and I've exiled most of the Cucumbers and 'planted' my first pot, with the Broad Beans and some Peas. I sawed off the bottom of the pot, the Broad Beans will definitely need to dig themselves into the ground - the roots now are already reaching the bottom of the pot, which is about 30 cm.

I'm now trying to decide whether I have the energy to tackle another pot - I'd need to clear more space in my bed first, though. I only have three more bags of Potting Soil left. I had nine on Friday!

I did tackle another pot, I chose to exile my Bush Beans. As I was working on the bed, my landlord strolled past and suggested, since the ground here isn't as bad as on the far south, that I should maybe mix it in with the Potting Soil! Cor, why didn't I think of that? I mixed 50/50 and ended up using only half a bag of Potting Soil - awesome! He also offered to grind the bottoms off my pots - much faster than my laborious sawing attempts! I gave him two more pots to turn bottomless; one of which I used for the Beans.

It was getting late, so I decided to call it a day and start washing dishes, etc ... only, as I approached the house, the power went down! It would seem that someone knocked over a pole or something, since the power wasn't gone completely, just very, very low! For example, the fridge didn't work, but the light inside did. My monitor was flashing - so I unplugged the PC; and the LED light I'm keeping on charge, for emergencies, was also flashing like a disco light! So, some power was getting through, just not enough for standard operation.

Of course, no power also means no water! I scooped a jug of water out of the kitties sink so I could at least wash my hands. But I wasn't able to do anything else ... sigh.

By half past six the power still wasn't back, so I called Rose! Lovely to hear her voice! Frankie and Shadow are fine, and so is Romeo - who FINALLY stopped spraying Rose's porch! Apparently my Snapdragon was in beautiful bloom ... only, the new tenants flattened it, they drove over it to park the car on the lawn. Sigh. What kind of person drives over a flower in full bloom? Ah well, at least they are not making Rose's life difficult - although, she says, that windows and doors aren't closed, but banged. Oh, and she mentioned that they don't seem to have given the garden disservice a key, since they cut only the outside grass - ha ha ha!

I held the phone out to Mewthos, when he was on his mewling - but the phone just got him interested, and he wouldn't say 'mew-mew-mew' to Rose. They all miss her, though - me, too!

Since the power didn't come back, I decided on an early night - just as I was getting ready, my landlady knocked on the door. They are going away Monday till Friday and asked me to just let their little dogs in and out of the house, and check on their water. Apparently they go on a hunger strike when they are away, though food is available to them.
