I don't know why, but Mewthos woke me up some time after four, mewling and using me for a trampoline. What could I do, but get up? Especially since Janey and Ziva joined his game - I was outnumbered!
Outside, one of the landlord's dogs had got out of her garden again, so I had to leave my gate open again.
The drive to work was unusually pleasant - for most of the trip, I had the roads all to myself! I must have caught a gap in the traffic, the old road was dark but empty, except for the occasional on-coming traffic.
Since I don't have a TV, I didn't know the news: There are massive strike and protest actions all over the country. My phone was buzzing all morning with staff letting me know they'll be late, due to strike / protest actions. At seven, only three people had arrived safe and sound. Everybody else followed later - everybody safe.
Work was draining. Mentally. I've implemented a different approach, giving staff more responsibilities to spread MY workload somewhat - and in return was asked to think about a system replacing one of the tasks previously done by the employee who left yesterday. In addition, we had some issues requiring a sort of hearing - fortunately no disciplinary was required. There's been too much of that in the past, I want it to stay in the past.
On the way home, I heard on the news that Hammanskraal is locked down again - all the roads in and out are blocked. Hammanskraal is the next village to the north. So, I don't know how people got home tonight. Fortunately, I turn off long before Hammanskraal - which is between Pretoria and Bela Bela, or Warmbad, as it was previously called. I never understood why that name had to change. It's named for the hot springs there, nothing political about the name.
Back at home the sight of Mewthos in the kitchen window on the lookout for me always warms my heart! He's there just about every single day, and when I arrive, Ziva and Janey join him - then they go sit by the passage door so they can zoom out, as if shot from a canon, the instant the door opens! And then they zoom back to find me, wondering why I'm not outside with them! Well, I do have to get out of my work clothes to be comfortable!
Right now, Ziva is kneading the blankie on my armchair, which is such a rare sight, I'm just sitting and watching. They gobbled down three sachets again tonight - I'll definitely run out before month end, if I don't get some more.
Tomorrow, after work, I want to drive out East to get some groceries - bread, meat and a few odds and ends ... I've made a list. And I really hope I will find some of the litter sand I need - this gravelly stuff is not working out for me. I don't like it.
I had dinner and then showered - apparently too long, because Mewthos came and mewled and pawed at the shower door. I opened for him, but - again - he wouldn't come in while the water was running! Ha Ha! Ziva and Lady Jane, however, did come in - although only after I turned off the water.
My plants are looking well, except for a few of the watermelons. I'll give them some time, but I'm not too upset - just a few of them are droopy. I'm not too sure what I want to do this weekend - funny thing: when I was sitting outside tonight, I felt like just giving gardening a break this weekend. I'll see how I'll feel on Saturday - there's nothing urgent that needs to be done at the moment, so it's fine if I want to take a break.
