It had to happen sooner or later: Ziva and Lady Jane caught two baby birds! Ziva climbed the tree and chased them, then Lady caught them where they landed on the ground. One is still alive, the other was alive but has since died. The birdcage is up in the kitchen, where I can keep an eye on it, since I don't have a spare room here, where I can lock them safely away from kitties.
I've been trying to work out a plan for today, since I definitely want the kitchen cleaned. On the one hand, first do the chores before I play in the garden - however, the garden has a timer, the sun. So I think I'll start in the garden, and when the sun gets too hot, I move inside and do my chores.
My landlady loves raising birds! So she happily took the surviving baby dove (or pigeon) and she'll raise him (or her)! Sjoe, that's quite a relief, because I really don't know enough about birds.
I worked in the garden until about ten, cleared some more ground and I'm ready to plant another pot. My landlord took another two pots and ground (? not sure if that's the right word, for having used a grinder?) the bottoms off them for me. I can simply place them, fill them with the mix of soil and ground (yes, I know, that's also soil - but I'm differentiating between the potting soil and the soil from the garden) and then simply plant my Peas.
When it got too hot to work in the sun, I started washing dishes - only to have Lady Jane bring back the dead baby bird! Ha Ha, I don't know where my landlord had placed it, but she found it and scavenged it. She is a real little scavenger!
Dishes are done and mippies are taking their daily noon Siesta. So, what shall I do? I should sweep and wash the floors, or maybe do some laundry ...
Ha Ha Ha! Chores or garden ... what do you think?
I managed to clear space for and fill two pots today. Only nine Pea plants left, which I'll do tomorrow. I put about six into each pot, that should be fine - they've each got room to grow. I have run out of stakes, though. I'll see if I can pop into Builders to get some more.
Tomorrow I'll finish the Peas and hope to start on the Tomatoes. I've been thinking, since I also need to thin out the herbs, I might as well thin them into my garden pots - add some to the Pea pots. I'll have to move the Basil with the Tomatoes, if I want to use that pot for the Rosemary.
The baby pigeon is doing well, chirping, eating, even fluttering around the cage a bit. My landlady reckons it'll be ready to be released in about two weeks. Hopefully it'll teach all the birdies about my devious team of cat-ladies!
I've showered, had dinner and then treated myself to a family ice cream. Janey came boldly and helped herself, Ziva was really funny, though. She's not comfortable eating off my plate, even with encouragement (yeah, I know, I'm spoiling them rotten! And teaching them bad manners. So?). She ended up with her hind legs on the sleeper couch and her front paws on the arm of the chair, stretched as long as she could go, helping herself to a few licks of ice cream! Later on, I put the empty bowl on the sleeper couch and Mewthos helped himself while Ziva licked Mewthos! They are cuddling together again and I've seen them washing each other as well, I'm glad to say.
Well, it's been a long day, and tomorrow should be just as long. Time for bed.
