Not the best of nights, I woke up around half one and couldn't go back to sleep until past two! So I woke up somewhat later than I should have, at ten to six! Too late to get onto the old road, so I had a leisurely coffee, got dressed and took the toll road ... only to find that prices had increased - by a hefty 7,5%! I didn't notice that on Monday since the signs haven't changed, I just happened to glance at the receipt today. Sneaky!
Work was ... well, I was without a Storeman and without a Quality Inspector, both of whom were sick. I hope my Storeman comes back tomorrow! I assigned a replacement, and she did a great job - but she hasn't had any hand-over nor training and doesn't know the store too well - naturally.
For myself, I thought I was all set to get started on the first building block of an inventory - only to discover another hurdle: Part Numbering! More research and several attempts to implement ideas I had, followed by some brainstorming and I think I finally cooked up something useful! I'll let it simmer until Monday, and if it still smells good, I'll start a trial.
Tomorrow I had better spend some time catching up on production paperwork, I've let that fall behind somewhat while I was researching the cornerstone of my management system.
If I hear the phrase 'It's not rocket science' just one more time, I think I'll start screaming! It's a favourite phrase used by our top management about management systems ... it may not be 'rocket' science, per se, but it IS science, and not 'common sense'! It's the lack of scientific approach which produced what I'm now trying to clean up! It's the reason we don't have accurate costing or even inventories! Too much direct cost isn't measured and simply lumped into 'overheads'!
I have to confess, though, that I'm quite enjoying the task! It's exquisitely challenging, yet clearly within my scope! And I'm happy to take my brain out of retirement and put it through a full exercise regime again!
At home, I found my gate already opened for me - lovely! The lawn was mowed, so they allowed me the convenience. I also found three mip-noses plastered to the kitchen window when I arrived! First the bright pink Mew-nose soon joined by Ziva and Lady Jane! Lovely warm welcome home!
They have - once again - accepted the 'going-out-all-day' routine and are mipping less for attention when I get home ... tomorrow they get to go out for a while and then two whole days outside ... and Monday the mip-and-mewl routine starts again. It will take time for them to grasp the rhythm of week and weekend. It will also be easier, when they can finally go outside while I'm at work - though a part of me dreads that day, utterly!
Last night, when I went to bed, Ziva came and lay by my side within reach so I could scratch her head, chin and ears. I did that literally until I fell asleep! Mewthos also came to snuggle at some point - I found him next to me when I woke up, while Lady Jane was by my feet. When I got up, they all took advantage and wanted cuddles! But that's not why I had trouble going back to sleep - can't blame them!
Tonight will be an early night ... like, round about now. Which is twenty to eight.
