Lazy Sunday

I woke nice and early, enjoyed the sunrise and ... just lazed about. I've done the laundry, unpacked a couple of boxes and cooked. I've steamed potatoes, beans and baby marrows, then hard boiled some eggs, now I'm waiting for everything to cool so I can cut it into a salad-type cold meal.

Mippies have gone ... I've forgotten what I meant to say, since Ziva came at that moment demanding attention. She no longer just mips for attention, she strings together a collection of mips and euws and meows that give the impression of her actually talking! She IS very intelligent and she's noticed how I talk to them and even sing at them while we cuddle and she's just trying to do the same. Although, once she's getting attention, she stops talking and just purrs up a storm!

After Ziva got her required dose of attention, I decided to take a nap or rather: Siesta. Then I got busy again, unpacking a few more boxes - mostly clothes and some books - and I cut the potatoes and vegetables. I washed the dishes did a few odd jobs and - for a lazy Sunday - kept quite busy.

I showered and then Mewthos came muddy pawed for a cuddle. Sigh! He starts sirening from around six for his munchies, but the ladies like to enjoy some more time outside. They all showed up at the door about quarter to seven, so I figured they're ready to come inside.

Watching them eat is quite entertaining! Mewthos vigorously attacks his food bowl - and none of them want to wait for the second or third bowl to be filled, they all crowd around the first bowl. Only once the second bowl is filled will someone go to it - and poor Janey was having a tough time getting to a bowl that wasn't claimed by Mewthos today! He was bobbing from bowl to bowl like a child in a candy store! I took some photos to show off my new bowls - now I just need to find time to select, edit and upload them.

I've been looking at my garden today and I think I need to re-pot the Dianthum. They're not doing well, not well at all. The succulents, on the other hand, seem to be doing just fine. I guess I'll have to plant those and put all other plants back into pots until I've had time to do something about the ground.

My landlord bought some more succulents - more ground cover! I just laughed and jokingly suggested he find some ground in his garden. I managed to give the message in a very friendly, inoffensive way - I hope it was received. He means well and I do appreciate his helpfulness - a lot!

I've also been trying to decide what to do with regards to shopping. Friday afternoon is not a viable option. By Wednesday, I'm too tired to do anything after work - and yet, what's the use of getting vegetables on a Monday, if I don't cook them until the weekend, when I can open the kitchen windows? Cooking with them closed - in this heat - is really a little too much.

I really need to get a kitchen garden going, but that's also going to take time. After all, it's not as if I've been lazing about since I've moved in - I've done a lot of work in the garden already, and I'm nowhere near planting anything except succulents! It's not only the ground, but the blazing sun as well. The pots are all standing in the shade for most of the day - but the path gets half a days sun. And afternoon sun at that. I wonder what vegetables can be grown in pots? There are some holidays coming up, giving me a bit more time to work at home, I should take advantage of that!

I don't have anything growing, yet, though, so tomorrow night I'll have to stop and shop somewhere ...
