I woke to the vibrating phone, and no mip in sight –
they had, however, placed one of their favourite toys next to me. I made my
coffee, and when it started to get light, I opened the kitchen windows then
went outside with my coffee!
And did my mippies just love that!?! At first they
stayed by my side, but not for long. Ziva decided to go for an exploratory
stroll far outside my little garden – I eventually lost sight of her! Good for
her, but not so good for my poor little heart! She had a great time, though and
came back when she was satisfied.
Mewthos, of course, got lost in the tall grass again!
Ai, ai, ai! Then he went to investigate the barky things beyond the fence! At
one point he had somehow gotten into the dogs side of the garden and couldn’t
get back! I had to lift the fence and pull him back under it – he did not like
that! Neither did I!
Lady Jane explores when I’m outside, and demands lots
and lots of cuddles when I’m inside. It’s getting so I can barely get anything
done, she’s right under my feet, mipping for more cuddles!
For myself, I enjoyed the sunrise outside, then came
in to catch up on my game. I’m having a lazy, leisurely Saturday morning –
playing, writing, cuddling mippies. It’s a lovely day, though, overcast, so it
probably won’t get too hot … perfect gardening weather!
Which lasted about four hours. I worked four hours
straight, and it doesn’t look like I’ve done much, the patch I cleared looks
rather small, considering how much time I spent on it. It’s only about a
quarter of the area I cleared last Saturday, but, like I said, this side is a
lot more work than the other was. It’s covered in grass and weeds, so I have to
dig and dig and pull roots as much as I can, and then do it again.
I’m also turning that area into a bed, so when they
mow, there’s a line they don’t need to cross. It was so overgrown that it was
difficult to see where the ‘flowers’ started – I say ‘flowers’ because what’s
planted there are tiny little succulents, which have spread quite a bit. And between
them, the grass has grown knee high.
The bed curves in line with the path, but some of
these succulents have been planted in a line with the centre of the bed –
continuing straight, rather than curving; I’m taking those out and plonking
them on the far side of the bed, so it’s easier to mow. I’m keeping a space
between those succulents and the path – that’s where I want to plant my
flowers, eventually. For now, I’ll have to take the succulents I got from Rose
out of the pot and place them there.
Then I took a nap for about an hour. Lady Jane joined
me, Ziva preferred curling up on the scratcher and Mewthos came sirening
through just after I had woken up. It’s over 35°C in the shade again, and I can’t
decide whether that’s worse in a hot factory at work, or on weekends at home.
On the whole, I find it worse at home, because it’s such a waste of a weekend,
when it’s too hot to do anything.
There have been some clouds throughout the day, but
they’ve done nothing more than serve as background decoration, useless things.
After their morning exploration, mippies are staying
nearby. And when I say ‘nearby’, I really mean underfoot! I can hardly walk for
kitties flopping around mipping or mewling about the heat! And there are people
out there, who actually believe that cats are aloof! That they see their owners
as nothing but servants … I think mine have no concept of aloof! They want to
do everything together, with me. And cuddles? There is no end to their need for
cuddles! Well, except when there’s a bird within reach, but let’s be reasonable
here.
My stomach has been out of sorts the entire afternoon,
I don’t know what caused it, I haven’t actually eaten much – not today, nor
yesterday. I blame that juice I bought by mistake, the one I thought was Kiwi
and, although it contains Kiwi, it’s mostly Wheat Grass. I don’t know who came
up with the idea of drinking grass, but it seems to have become quite the ‘in’
thing.
There is a brand of juice drinks available in Pretoria
called Sir Juice. It’s made in Harrismith, and this past month I have seen it
in far more shops than used to sell it. Apparently it’s now so popular, that
Pick n Pay and Spar have started their own imitations – you know what they’re
both like for monopolizing a good thing! Well, that’s how I bought this Wheat
Grass thing – by accident. Not looking too carefully. That’ll teach me, eh?
Did I say mippies are nearby at all times? That
changed when the sun went down! I washed the dishes, then watered the garden
and then sat down to enjoy the sunset. I considered getting them inside as it
got dark – as always – but I’m thinking that sooner or later they will be out
after dark, so might as well see how they behave while I’m around! Well, I saw –
or rather, I didn’t see, since they all disappeared! I didn’t really worry,
though – after this mornings explore, I think they know their territory better.
So I went inside to shower. Not a mip showed up! So I went back outside for
another smoke and waited. Mewthos came into sight and stretched out on the path.
Lady Jane wasn’t far, either. Mewthos seemed to be waiting to be called inside …
so I obliged. I called the ‘m’ word! Mewthos got all excited and all three mips
appeared!
I had forgotten the fish knife, which I use to scoop
the meat out of the sachet, and by the time I had got it, Lady Jane had decided
to go back outside, rather than wait for some munchie. I filled all three
bowls, closed the bedroom door and went outside to get her Ladyship! She made
no trouble about it, sat right outside the door, as if she was waiting to see
if I’d come get her. Of course, I will, my darling girl! Always!
Well, my mippies are happy and tired – and their
tummies are full of yummies! Life is good! Sigh, did I say tired? Mini’s are
playing soccer in the lounge – I can hear boxes being jumped on … ah, well. I’m
tired and Ziva is sleeping on the shelf, so two out of four is not too bad!
