This countdown is starting to get on
my nerves now … I just wish it was all over and behind me! Every box I pack
reduces my lifestyle – when I pack kitchen, fewer options for meals; when I pack
lounge, fewer hobbies; when I pack bedroom, less clothes to choose from.
On the other hand, since I’m clearly
not finished packing – the more time I have left, the better! It means that I
don’t have to work myself into the ground – I can pace myself, and on days like
today, when I don’t feel like packing at all, I don’t have to.
Lady Jane worries me today: she will
not move away from me! She’s spent most of the day sleeping on one of the
chairs behind me, occasionally mips at me for attention – but just won’t go
outside to play! I’ve gone into the garden several times, each time she eagerly
runs downstairs with me and explores seemingly happily … but as soon as I go
upstairs, she follows! It worries me that the little fright she got yesterday,
when we returned (and she found the door shut in front of her, and me with the
carrier behind her) has unsettled her to such an extent! How will she cope with
the trauma of several days separation?
Yet, when I went downstairs to chat
to Rose, Lady Jane not only explored inside the garden, but climbed through the
hedge and explored outside! Not far, and she came back fairly quickly, but
still! When she came back she climbed another one of Rose’s succulent trees!
Lately, she seems to have developed a passion for short, stubby trees! Ha Ha!
Romeo has been in and out all day,
caterwauling through the entire flat! Ziva brought me another bird, she ate
half and left the other half for me! Generous? Nah – the poor thing had just
filled its crop with seeds! Ziva doesn’t eat seeds!
I’ve been making a lot of pretty,
colourful paper sticks for Rose’s basket. I’ve cut the base and painted it. I’m
not sure I like the colour, though – also: it’s water soluble. Maybe I’ll add a
coat of acrylic paint.
Done. I’ve added a coat of golden
brown – I’ll see tomorrow, in daylight, whether I like the look of it.
It’s half eight and getting dark,
mippies are all out – including Lady Jane – only Romeo is mooching around wanting
lovies! He breaks my heart! I’ve seriously considered taking him with me – but
even if I could find the money to pay for his shots and the travel fees; I can
not imagine he will cope with being shut in! He will go berserk in the kennel,
en route and I can’t see any way of keeping him indoors for weeks! I’ve weighed
which will hurt him more: my desertion or the trauma – and as much as I know it
will hurt him when he realizes that I’ve left; I think taking him with me would
drive him insane. He deserves neither …
I wait until just after eight before
calling the mippies in: tricked you, Lady Jane! Ha Ha! She stays outside until
five past eight – which is just in time! I just filled Romeos bowl with chicken
sachet as she come strolling in!
Oh Ziva! Such a clever cat! For the
past couple of days I’ve had a bowl of ice cream before going to bed and let
the mippies clean the bowl – she’s caught on to that and came to complain
tonight, since I haven’t had any ice cream; or rather: she hasn’t had her bowl
to lick! I had to put a few drops of custard into each of their bowls to
appease her! She is just such a clever girl!
