I woke up around five this morning,
but went back to sleep and got up at nine. There was a time when waking at five
would have filled me with joy of the early morning and got me up happily! I
need to find my way back to that state of mind.
Mewthos has been busy during the
night, he twirlied my jersey all the way to the passage and the seat blanket
almost off the chair.
Load shedding continues haphazardly;
we were scheduled to be off from eigth till half eleven, but the power remained
on. I checked the news, and the latest news claims Stage 2 in progress from
nine till ten tonight. And the schedule agrees, that we should have been off
until half eleven. Very vexing. I’ve put a load in the machine – I really need
some clean clothes.
I’ve discovered what Danish Rye
means: it just means they use less rye, so the time in the oven toasted the
outside somewhat. Well, at least breakfast was nice, especially as I ended it
with a serving of strawberries with cream! The strawberries were a bit
disappointing – the top layer was fine, but the bottom layer? I had to cut off
a lot that was squashed and quite a bit were worm-eaten. One even still had the
worm inside! Maybe I’ll be able to grow my own strawberries in future. They’re
not worth the price charged in stores, not even when they’re on ‘special’.
I’ve re-packed the Kist, I left two
large games in there, then filled it with duvets, the telescope (wrapped in one
duvet), the PVC pipes, the wire mesh and the spinning wheel. All light weight
but spacious. The spinning wheel particularly fills a large box all by itself.
Last time it traveled in the car – both from East London and then again to
Port Elizabeth. I also packed some jerseys into the ‘DVD shelf’, the one
lockable shelf. Oh, and I packed a couple of boxes as well.
For dinner I’m steaming the chicken
breast and frying the chicken livers. It’s too much for one person, even though
I share generously with the mippies. Tomorrow I’ll steam the beans, shred the
chicken, cut the livers and add some mayo for a salad.
Oh dear, I made a big mistake! I
went outside after six to let the mippies run till seven … only, I lost track
of time, and now it’s after eight and all my cats are outside and won’t come
in! Not even the magic word ‘munchies’ works! It’s not a good thing, because
the open door is clearly visible from the street …
Ziva and Mewthos came in, but Lady
Jane refused. She didn’t even turn an ear when I called! I had my hands full
attempting to keep Ziva and Mewthos in, while getting Romeo out and in that
whole back and forth, they all went out. Now I’m all alone …
Sigh, Romeo comes in, nibbles, and
strolls out. It’s twenty past eight when Lady Jane finally deigns to stroll in!
I keep her occupied with a sachet and call Mewthos, hoping he’ll come in as
well. He does, so I add something to his bowl then go to the door hoping Ziva
comes in as well! It’s a close call, she comes in just as the minis are ready
to stroll back outside! As I shut the door, Romeo wails pitifully outside …
Some good news on the cat front:
Shadow seems to be on the mend. Rose told me she came in, ate and drank lots
and lots of water! Her voice is also back to her normal mwep mwep!
Once inside, Ziva went into a
strange attention mode – she’d come sit by my feet and mip at me till I’d go to
her and stroke, scratch and tickle her tummy. Again and again and again – which
is very unusual. She also now comes to sit on the Ottoman next to me throughout
the day for some attention.
It’s past ten now, so I can say it
without risking a jinx: our power did not go out at all today, even though
Stage 2 is in progress and we were due to have gone dark twice today! My game
also is back to normal – I could continue to load it all evening without any
problems.
