Day 41 of 100, Monday 3rd December

Quite a good night, no weird dreams that I remember – which is a relief! Since I have an appointment after eleven today, I’m only having one cup of coffee. The mippies come in around ten, even Ziva! I have a tummy-tickle session with Mewthos – he’s purring and vocalizing purrs quite loudly! I distract them with a sachet so that I can get out.

Rose is taking me to my appointment for my drivers licence renewal. Since she booked an appointment, I don’t have to queue for the eye test – twenty minutes later, I’m done. Then, however, I do have to queue – for the cashier! With only 3 of the 5 cashiers operating … well, 2, because one is on lunch, then the next, etc … it takes an hour and a half to get through that queue! Good news, though – the cashier issues the temporary driver’s licence; so now I’m legal to drive again.

While I queue for the cashier, Rose esquires about her licence – she applied beginning of August! Standard processing time is 6-8 weeks – so she should have had her license long ago … but the printing department were on strike, and now they print some, then don’t, then print some, then don’t. Nobody can tell her when she’ll get her license, she got some story about blocking and e-mailing and can’t re-apply … it’s anybody’s guess what’s going on. Her daughter applied beginning of November – so Rose took a chance and asked if hers was ready … guess what? She got it! She didn’t even have to show her authorization letter (to collect on behalf of), they just took the ID, asked her to sign and gave her the licence!

As a reward we treat ourselves to coffee and toasted sandwich at a little place Rose knows – both were extraordinarily delicious! On the way back we realized there’s load shedding in the area, since half the robots were out of order; we tried to avoid the worst of the crossings – but then here and there robots were working!?!  People don’t know how to cross a non-functioning robot! I do NOT want to be on the road during rush-hour!

Back at home, Rose showed me her cactus which had the most beautiful flower! I got my camera and took a lot of photos of this rare event! And now I just want to relax, play my game and have a milk shake.

The game still isn’t loading properly – it loads up to a point, then freezes. Very frustrating – if I allow it to be. I’ve decided not to.

Rose was telling me our gardener never showed up today, he was supposed to work for her. We also haven’t seen him last Wednesday, so, if we don’t see him on Wednesday, we’ll call his Wednesday employer to hear if he’s okay.

Rose has also been a little worried about Shadow – who hasn’t been around for days, and when last she saw her, Shadow didn’t eat. Apparently Shadow came in sounding hoarse – as if she has a throat infection – and still isn’t eating! When Rose picked her up, she was so light – she clearly lost a lot of weight in the past couple of days. We don’t know where she’s hiding or what is wrong – hopefully we can catch her sometime to take her to the vet.

I’ve been trying again for over an hour, but have not been able to get far in the game. Now I had better shut everything off, as it’s nearing four – and we’re scheduled to be in the dark until six thirty.

I decided to take this time to clean out the PC – boy, was it about time! The fan was covered in dust! By the time I finished cleaning all the insides and had put everything back together and plugged in, it was quarter to five – and the power had not gone out, yet! So, I figured I might as well take the clean PC for a test-run! It’s been worth the effort! Oh, I still struggle with the game, but everything else works much faster & better! I suppose I should consider a better graphics card …

I checked whether load shedding is still in progress – all the news state it’s scheduled to continue until ten tonight. No clue why we still have power. The news confirm Stage 2, and we’re definitely Group 7, so we we’re due to go dark from four to six thirty. Well, maybe they’ll switch us off at six – just because they can!

I’ve taken out the rubbish and will go spend some time in the garden before it gets dark. Mewthos was far next door – he came bounding from the courtyard where Shadow usually goes, climbed over the fence and came bounding up to me! But when I opened the gate, they stayed far back, near the house. I guess, as long as they stay away from the street, I should be happy!

I’ve cleared all the Nasturtiums out, they were mostly wilted by now. I’ve collected plenty of seeds – and can always collect more off the ground anytime. What I have so far, though, is more than enough to start another bed of Nasturtiums and Cosmos.

I’ve achieved quite a bit today, even though no boxes were packed. Tomorrow I should book an appointment for the mippies for their vaccination boosters and micro chipping. I was hoping to have help carrying them to the car and back – then I could have taken all three in one go, but 15-18kg is a bit too much for me in a carrier. Especially as they’ll be moving about. Urgh, on second thoughts, maybe I should wait until this load shedding is over – don’t want to drive with mippies through crazy traffic! There’s no need to rush, I still have two months.

Better go for an early night and an early start tomorrow.
