Day 47 of 100, Sunday 9th December

I got caught by load shedding at eight last night – I’m afraid I had forgotten about it, sigh. I went to bed to read but was still not sleepy when the power came back on around ten. I put my game cities to sleep and went to bed myself – Mewthos and Lady Jane were waiting for me there.

I woke up early again but with such bad lower back pain, I just couldn’t get up; I moved to relieve the pain and by eight I was able to get up. I wasn’t up to shopping, though, so I just let the mippies out.

It’s a lovely day outside, though inside the breeze is rather cold, so I think I’ll spend some time in the garden. It still need to raid Rose’s garden for succulents and I’m trying to decide what to do with the carnation plants … I’ll place as many as I can along the wall at the back, but there just isn’t enough space.

I called my neighbour on the other side, not Rose, and offered him as many carnations as he’d like. I had given that message via our gardener, but he says it never reached him. Our gardener always told me he didn’t want any carnations, but speaking to him directly, he was very grateful for the offer. So, when our gardener comes to work for him on Wednesday, he’ll dig up the carnations and will plant them for my other neighbour.

I was looking to see whether there was any space in the bed along the back wall and saw it could do with some weeding, so I busied myself with that first – and also collected all the rubbish tossed out the window by my upstairs neighbours. What a filthy lot they are! Then I pulled out as many carnations and snap dragons I could find space for and planted them along the wall. While I was busy there, Mewly went into one of his ‘must cuddle mommy now’ modes – I had to sit down and give him a good, long cuddle before he ran off happy!

Strangely enough, Shadow also demanded cuddles from me! Ever since she moved back to Rose’s she mostly avoided me – possibly afraid I’d hijack her again. Shame, poor girl still weighs almost nothing, but she’s eating, a LOT, so she should get her weight back soon! Shadow hasn’t learned about claws, yet, and she still tries to grab my hand with claws out. She also started her huffing again – ha ha, I had forgotten that!

Then I went with Rose through her garden on a raid. She knows which plants to dig up, which to break a piece and which need to grow roots in water first. I cut some Pelegonias – they are so beautiful! She doesn’t have any white ones left, though, so I got some pink ones. I tried to dig up one of the cabbage plant babies – but they are all connected. On Rose’s suggestion, I cut one off. It already has some roots as well, so I’m hoping it’ll grow. Then I took pieces of the various succulents in her garden as well as a sprig of Lavender. The lavender needs to grow roots before I can plant it, so that’s upstairs here. The rest is filling my outside pots!

I had also transplanted some snap dragons into my pots – let’s hope they’ll take. I’ll need to water the pots daily for a while, so that they all take and grow. My garden is starting to look somewhat sparse now, with everything going either into pots or elsewhere.

While I was trying to dig up the cabbage plant, Mewthos was on the fence – Rose was afraid he might jump onto my back, ha ha, of course he did!  Later Ziva came mipping at me for attention as well – I wonder why they are all in such lovey-dovey cuddle mood today? Not that I’m complaining, just curious.

Felix is here as well, so I put some Whiskas in the outside bowl for him. Then I went to water the pots since the sun is now behind clouds – who knows, it may even rain again tonight! For once I watered without Mewthos under my feet – strange experience!

I would have preferred to spend the day tending my garden rather than dismantling it – but that’s another job done in preparation for the move. And I have enough time to re-stock should any plants not survive the transplanting. Maybe taking just one cutting of each plant is taking a chance, but frankly, I don’t want to add more pots to the move. And after all, it’s not as if there are no plants in Pretoria!

Our gardener should come to work for Rose tomorrow, so I’ll have no trouble getting the mippies inside so I can go and get groceries. Right now I have more trouble keeping them outside! They all want their evening treat now, but it’s only half seven. If I shut them in too early, they bounce off the walls! I was hoping I could start my dinner, but that’s what got them all excited, so I’m leaving it for now. Sigh, and Romeo is here for his share as well …

It started to rain, so I called in my mips – Romeo and Felix where not in sight! Wow! They finished two sachets, and not only the gravy, but they ate all the meat as well! They really like the duck, I must try to get hold of some in Pretoria.

For my own dinner, I just fried the left over potatoes with the last two eggs and some cheese.

I think I figured out where I went wrong with my basket project. I should give it another try tomorrow. I have this bad habit of starting things but not finishing them for various reasons, this one runs the risk of lacking novelty – there are so many sites and youtube videos on this subject, it’s as if the whole world is doing them. Funniest thing though, one of those videos claimed to have seen them selling for $100! Though they must be truly artfully done if they fetch such a high price! I don’t have the artistic flair though, so I’ll just have to settle for neat. And come up with some ideas of my own!
