Day 38 of 100, Friday 30th November

Trouble falling asleep – as usual. Well, usual these days, anyway. Got up, had my coffee – mippies ran outside, mippies came back inside. The weather is quite unpleasant, not wet or too cold, but the wind? Awful!

Seeing the mippies curled up on the chair, I decided to go shopping. First I treated myself to a stroll through a wool store. The varieties were dazzling! Gone are the days of wool being just wool – they had balls of … I don’t even know what to call them, one could knit the most amazing garments with that material! Not me, though. I also saw some interesting stitching – pattern & yarn included, but the writing was all Chinese. My treat for today was just looking – no buying! The prices were not very attractive, so that was an easy decision to stick to. I didn’t see any yarn for Makramee, though.

I was half-way through grocery shopping when the power went out … again! Well, Spar has generators, so after a minute everything was back on in there. Rose mentioned that yesterday, Newton Park had power while we were without, so I figured today it’s their turn.

Ha! As if! I got home to find that the power was out as well – yet again! I parked the car outside the garage. I had also treated myself to a National Geographic, so I sat down to read that after I had packed the groceries away.

I got 4 loaves of bread – called Danish Rye for some reason. I wanted what they used to call Munich Rye (at Sunridge they call it Bavarian Rye) but I guess Danish Rye is the new thing. I checked the dates, and they’re all sell-by 1st December, then I found one for 4th December … but it was open, and had started to dry out. I put them all in the freezer. They are so much tastier after I’ve baked them up!

I also bought a half dozen eggs, which I put on the counter as always. Eggs don’t need refrigeration, they just need a constant temperature. Well, it seems Lady Jane has now got a taste for eggs – despite the after-effects. I heard a thud in the kitchen and found Mewthos on the counter! When I went to look, I saw that he had pushed my carton of eggs off the counter! One was a complete loss, two were unbroken – I managed to salvage the contents of three of the broken eggs. Guess who’s having Omelette for breakfast?

The wind today is really strong! I was talking to Rose outside earlier and one of those gusts had both of us stumbling! Upstairs, the wind kept lifting the access panel to the attic – which frightened my mippies every time! Not so much, though, that they don’t cause a thud of their own (aka egg carton)!

Once the power was back, I looked up the cause … more ‘load shedding’! Now they’ve gone to Stage 2, yesterday was Stage 1. That’s why I was in the dark the same time two days in a row! And today? Well, it’s not over … the power will go out again at eight tonight! And again at two tomorrow morning until half seven! You’d think that no electricity at night is no problem … except that my geyser is off from six to eight every evening, including tonight, and then at eight the power goes off – including the geyser. So, there’s no hot water for me unless I want to take a bath very, very early! Why not? Because I don’t like to bath while my front door is open, that’s why!

I’ve paid the rent and sent a mail giving notice for 31st January 2019 – thanks to the power outage, I could only do that after three.

Well, I’m charging my load-shedding light, I’ve boiled some water and filled the flask – for chamomile tea, should I want some, and I’ve set my games as best I can; time to switch off the PC and get my book.
