Day 58 of 100, Thursday 20th December

I had the most ghastly nightmare last night – I must have rolled onto my back in my sleep, I always have bad dreams when I’m sleeping on my back. It was absolutely horrid! I dreamed that I was running for my life, through some abandoned factory. Never mind the fear of being killed, running alone was nightmare enough! I don’t run! I puff and wheeze just going up and down the front stairs – if I tried running at top speed, I’d drop dead after the first 100m!

That nightmare woke me around five – it wasn’t quite light yet but close. But too early to get up I’m afraid. I turned on my side and went back to sleep … then woke around eight. Actually, Ziva woke me up – decided it was time, so she sat next to my head and mipped at me! She doesn’t do that very often and I was quite glad she woke me today.

It’s lovely and cool today, windy though sunny – it’s almost cold! Lovely! It’s cold enough to finish the vacuuming, if only I was in the mood for that ha ha! I re-arranged the flowers from the glasses into my new woven vase and washed the dishes so the glassed I had used were clean for packing – and I packed all extra glassware and crockery. I’ve been meaning to do that for a long time and now it’s done.

I packed some more kitchen and pantry stuff – it’s looking really bare now. There are still some tricky items to be packed, like that heavy mixer motor (in the base), my records and the baking forms but the worst of everything is done. I’m way past the 60% mark, so well on track. I’ve done a lot of cross-packing – as in packed to fill the boxes with unrelated items, so unpacking will be … disorganized to say the least! I’ll be far more organized with the last lot, since it’s all ‘must have’ as soon as possible. I tend to get quite energetic with the unpacking – far more than I do about packing.

This afternoon Lady Jane got quite demanding, so I stuck a roll of toilet paper on the gate then told her to go catch it – ha ha ha, she went at it right away! Rose found some of the paper wrapped around flowers in her flower pot – I reassured her that it’s clean! Finding tissue / toilet paper is always tricky; you never know where it came from – and you DON’T want to touch it unless you do!

I also scored some short bread and milk tart on a sponge base Rose had baked for another tea visitor – deeeelicious! Coincidentally we’re both planning to cook our gem squash tonight! Oh, in case I forgot to mention it, I finally picked the two gem squash in my garden and gave one to Rose.

I took a walk around my garden and found quite a few more of those lily’s – I put stones around each of them but I think tomorrow I should go down and dig up as many of them as I can. The one in the flower pot is still doing well, so they can survive transplanting – I just need to dig really deep to get to the root from which it grows. I should take a photo – it looks really strange. I think I remember digging up roots like that way back when our gardener dug that last bed for me. I should also collect more seeds tomorrow, a lot of the cosmos are full of seeds now. Mewthos and Romeo helped with the watering again – as usual! I also showed Rose Lady Jane’s bikini ha ha ha! Lady Jane is almost completely white from top to bottom underneath with only a ring of grey patches around the middle; I call that her bikini!

That kitchen packing had been bothering me for a while, now that it’s done I feel free to continue with some basket weaving again. Rose lent me an ice cream container as that’s the size and shape she had in mind. I’ve been looking at my different attempts and I can’t quite decide whether the flattened or the ones keeping the round shape look better – but I’ve collected quite a lot of shiny coloured papers just for that purpose. I’ve used a lot of the other newspaper for packing – I’ve never had such a lot of newspaper at my disposal when I was packing. I’ve never ‘collected’ all the newspapers and ads from the mailbox before. Well, in my last place there was no way of receiving any post – they hadn’t installed post boxes for tenants! Seriously!

For dinner tonight I made steamed potatoes with that gem squash – I had left it too late again to defrost anything. I also cut some fresh parsley from the pot outside the door to sprinkle over them. Quite delicious!

Lady Jane was inside just after seven, when I went to the bedroom to close the curtains she came running at top speed – she almost crashed through the window! Poor girl caught herself quite a bump on the head in her excitement! She was a little dazed for a minute or so. Well, since she’s the tricky one to get in, I decided to take advantage of her already being inside so I called Mewthos and Ziva in as well. Those two are so food-obsessed it’s never a problem getting them to come inside! Offer them food and they’ll follow me to hell and back ha ha ha! Lady Jane is the difficult one – she’s not keen on the ‘treats’, she’s far more into the Whiskas outside.

Well, they’re all fed and happy now – and so am I. For some strange reason, Mewthos opted to go nap on my bed. Usually they all nap here in the lounge with me until I go to bed. Ziva used to sulk in the bedroom but now she’s in here with all of us. They don’t usually come as soon as I go to bed, they wait until I’m about to go to sleep before they start coming one by one for their cuddle sessions.
