Day 53 of 100, Saturday 16th December

Finally! I woke before seven – not much, but getting there! I love an early start to the day! Trouble is: I don’t know what I want to do with today? I’ve had another idea for a basket last night that I’d like to try – a different approach to a round basket.

Hmm, the basket is coming along nicely – only: how wide should I make it? And what’s it going to be useful for? Then I remembered the jam jar I had washed to use as a vase for my carnations as I cut them, so that I could pack the glasses I’d been using. I may even paint the basket this time to make it look more store-bought than made in kindergarten, ha ha!

Sigh, I didn’t think ahead how to finish it. I made it lovely and tight, flattened the waft and the weft both nicely, the jar fits tight and beautiful … but I couldn’t turn them over at the top and weave them alongside the waft, as I’d normally do. I ended up twisting a thick braid along the top – which I’ll have to paint to make sure it doesn’t come apart, as it’s already threatening to do.

Another unpleasantly warm day today, though at least there’s a lovely cool breeze. It was overcast earlier, now it’s sunny on the east and overcast west. I watered the garden and an hour later the weather did another watering.

Romeo’s been caterwauling around the house half the afternoon, I took pity on him and sat down with him for a while, scratching his ears – he likes to sniff my nose when it’s close enough. Later he went after Ziva again and I had to chase him out. He was not around when my mippies pestered me for their evening treat and I shut the door with relief. It is so unpleasant shutting him out!

Ziva came mipping at me for seconds and thirds, now her tummy is full of yummy and she’s happily snoozing on the chair. Lady Jane only cared for the first treat – she prefers the Whiskas … and whatever junk she can get hold of to gulp down and throw up, silly girl.

Rose had a tea party this afternoon and had baked some scrumptious delicacies, she gave me a share – delicious!

I’ve been experimenting with some tight weaving again and I don’t think that will work It makes a nice, strong and fairly solid texture – but I can’t come up with a way to finish it; what to do with the ends. Also, it looks more like beading than weaving.
