I’m not quite sure whether I dreamed
that I woke up at six or whether I really did wake up at six this morning!
Either way, I turned over and got up only at eight. Silly me!
It’s a wicked hot day again and I
just can’t get myself to do anything; at least there’s a cool breeze, well
cooling at any rate. It’s over 30°C – for some reason, the 24th
always gets unbearably hot.
I don’t need to cook – I still have
gazpacho. I’ve put a load into the machine, since I’m running out of tops …
because I’ve packed a lot already.
I’m just lazing about today; it’s
just too hot to do anything. Thank goodness I’m still in Port Elizabeth and not
yet in Pretoria – at least there is a bit of air movement here! Won’t get that
in Pretoria! Sigh.
I still feel the pressure of all that
I still need to get done before the move; so much of it just so awfully
tedious! The packing is the least of my worries … the worst part is this
endless battle against what feels like a heavy blanket of apathy. Every action
is a battle against this strong desire to do nothing; to just wait until it all
goes away and life returns to normal. Every task I do is a victory – albeit a
tiny one; every time. One by one; step by step and box by box. Even the daily
tasks are an issue; making food, washing dishes, doing laundry, cleaning the
flat, watering the garden – sometimes it’s still a pleasure but most of the
time it’s an awful chore.
Mewthos and I watered the pots and
garden; we even went up to the rockery and I picked the ripe cherry tomatoes –
yummy! And also picked quite a lot of Vieruurtjie seeds. They seem to be
somewhat smaller than last year’s seeds – all of them – I’ll just have to wait
and see if they’ll grow in Pretoria.
I let the mippies out till nearly
eight – they were all sitting by Rose’s gate; waiting for me to call them! Even
Shadow was part of the group. When I called, Ziva came eagerly and Mewthos
followed soon enough – Lady Jane was not so eager, yet again, but she came
anyway.
I feel a bit better after a cool
shower – not cold, exactly, just very little warm water. At least I’m a little
less sticky, so I should be able to sleep.
And then I went crazy and chopped
off my hair! Well, I used scissors, but I simply cut off and off and off! Feels
much better now! It can’t possibly be straight since I really didn’t make much
of an effort, so I had better keep it tied up – which I do anyway. And get to
someone professional to fix the mess one day.
Oh my! Those mippies! I just went to
look for them and they’ve decided to make themselves comfy in my wardrobe! I
had to leave the door open because Lady Jane and Ziva had settled on the bottom
two shelves. Ziva has come out and is now in her box but Lady Jane is staying on
the second shelf. So Mewthos decided to join her – only there isn’t enough
space, so he’s pushed some stuff off the shelf to make room for himself! Never
a dull moment with this lot! They always come up with something new! Well, at
least it wasn’t eggs getting pushed off the counter this time!
And finally, a perfect end to a
mostly awful day, I finally managed to capture some photos of the moonlight
reflecting on the ocean! Something I’ve been trying for almost as long as I’ve
lived here, but never managed before! It helped that the minis had crawled away
into a shelf so I could open the window to take photos. Conditions are not
often right; so it’s not something I see every full moon – so I’m very glad I
finally managed to photograph this amazing sight!
