Day 48 of 100, Monday 10th December

Same story: Struggle to sleep, wake up late. I’m getting really tired of this. I let the mippies out while I had my coffee and tried to exercise the pain out of my lower back.

Our gardener is here, working for Rose – and apparently my mippies have got used to him, as they didn’t come inside to hide from him. At one point I looked out the window and watched Lady Jane climb on top of the Spekboom in the corner! She literally climbed right to the top! They are not very tall trees, but they aren’t really strong, either and I was afraid it might break. But it held her weight – I took a couple of photos, though.

Ziva came in with a grasshopper and hung around inside afterwards, so I took a chance and called them in for munchies. It worked! They all came in and I could get out to get groceries.

First I went to the vet and made an appointment for the three of them to get their booster shots, micro chipped and weighed. They suggested I do that between Christmas and New Year, since I’d like it done in December – then they’ll all be close to their time and all in one go. They suggested I use two carriers – Mewthos in one and the other two in the second; because my biggest concern is being able to carry them all in one go, they have got so heavy now! I’ll borrow Quizzy Lizzy’s carrier for the occasion. It’ll be a very noisy ride, I’ll bet! They also wrote down the prices for me … sigh … Well, I’ve just sent an update to Move-a-pet, I’ll finalise everything with them in January, when they re-open.

Then I went to the corner Spar. They had quite a lot of specials, some on items I needed. Specifically on Whiskas, it worked out cheaper than the Makro price. Halfway through Spar, my right knee started buckling! Fortunately I had a cart, so I didn’t fall, but walking was quite a mission for a while there.

They also had Feta on special, cucumbers as well and ice cream! I also got some frozen chicken fillets, also on special, and quite a few sirloin and rump – mixed class, which now costs what A-class cost a few months ago.

Back at home our gardener helped carry everything upstairs. A 2-liter milk slipped from my hand – fortunately it didn’t split open, just sprung a leak; so I carried it upside down upstairs and decanted it into my jug; which I had not yet packed, luckily! Then I had to re-arrange my fridge since the jug doesn’t fit into the standard arrangement.

With all those specials, I treated myself to a Sushi lunch, which I enjoyed very much! Opening those soy containers is quite a mission, though! Oh, they look really neat and are easy to close … but opening? I have to try and get my thumb nail under and between lid and container to un-snap the lid or all the soy sauce spills!

I forgot to ask for some boxes to take home for packing. I must start making a habit of that from now on, or I won’t have enough boxes to pack everything! Every time, I keep my boxes stored safely and always hope that next time I won’t have to get more … I hate having to drive around asking for boxes! I dread driving in Pretoria even more … here, it’s a few minutes to the nearest Spar, not much further to the vet; but in Pretoria? Well, it depends on which area I’ll end up in. If I’m on the outskirts, it’ll be a long drive for groceries.

I didn’t really buy much here, it’s mostly the gardening and the cat’s stuff. In two and a half years, I mostly gardened. Oh, I got some furniture, too, but small stuff. The little work desk, the garden table and chairs and of course the sleeper couch and wing-back lounge chair. Sounds a lot when I list it like that, but now I have just about everything I need.

Well, I’ve adapted to the new situation, my thinking is along the new lines of settling down rather than minimizing to make the constant moving easier. I’m also working on ideas of actually using all the things I’ve been hoarding – rather than just getting rid of it. Transforming memorabilia into useful items. And making rather than buying ready-made.

Mewthos has yet another injury, this time it looks as if he’s cut his nose. It’s too dirty to really see what he did and since his nose is always dirty (he likes to sniff the ground up close) I only saw it today, but it’s been like that for a day or two already. Of course he won’t hold still for me to clean it, silly boy. It seems to have mostly healed already anyway, so I guess it’ll just be another scar. If he goes on like this, we’ll be playing naughts and crosses on him one of these days!

I watered the garden with Mewthos in close attendance again. And Romeo, I’m afraid. That poor boy just wants attention, and I have no choice but to desert him …it just breaks my heart.

I called the mippies inside and they came eagerly … as did Romeo, all expectant! I gave my mippies their sachet and got another one for Romeo … Mewthos came running to see if there’s another treat for him outside! I had to pick him up and toss him inside, he is just such a greedy chops! Always looking to for the greener grass.

Success! I finally managed to make a little basket! It looks just what it is: a first attempt – all wobbly, full of gaps; like craft day in kindergarten! Ha ha! I don’t mind, it was an experiment and as far as I’m concerned, a successful one. I’m busy painting it now, just a uniform light brown.

I was somewhat disgusted by some of the comments in the YouTube I watched, one where she suggested to run the paper sticks through a pasta machine to flatten them – since she only uses that one for crafts, it’s never seen any pasta. Those machines aren’t cheap! And to waste one to flatten paper sticks? Seriously! That’s one of the reasons I don’t like the term ‘craft’ – people who can afford such waste only make useless arty decorations! The other comment – I hesitate to repeat it, since it is almost sacrilege – was her suggestion to use ‘useless books’. What kind of creature destroys books? Honestly, I do not want to be associated – even remotely – with such behaviour!

I had a hot bath, as hot as I could stand and as long as I could manage – I’m not one for long baths. I’ve taken a Panamor (generic Voltaren), so hopefully I won’t wake with backpain so bad that I don’t even want to get up.
