Day 83 of 100, Monday 14th January

Another good night for me, followed by an early morning – during which the mippies drove me half insane! Especially Mewthos! He went and stretched himself on the kitchen counter (naughty!) then he investigated the seeds on my table (naughty!) and he continuously strolled onto my desk (naughty!)! I sat down to play with them for a while but he was just in a mood this morning.

I tried calling my boss again – the usual: no answer. I left a message and some time later his wife called. She’s found a place, but there are dogs! I told her a bit about my mippies; if the dogs are fenced off, they could actually keep my mippies in my garden, sort of guard them – but if they go crazy wanting to chase my mippies, it’s not going to work. She said she’ll have a look tomorrow and will let me know.

Our gardener is working for Rose today, so the mippies are in and out a lot. He’s working on the hedge, on the outside, so they feel quite comfortable staying in the garden – except when he comes to my courtyard, for tools, Ha Ha!

I’ve just scanned and e-mailed all the latest info regarding my mippies to Move-a-Pet. I was looking and Mewthos’ micro chip form – no wonder he became Menonos! I couldn’t read ‘Mewthos’ myself, they really made no effort! I suppose knowing that I’m now a past client … so I’m not worth any more effort.

Rose was kind enough to buy me some fruits, so I’ve augmented my breakfast with some of those.

Since Lady Jane was moping around, I lured her outside by doing some gardening. I took all the little pots with plants I had on my stand by the front door and placed them into various large pots. Mewthos came to supervise and get lovies while I’m in his garden! He is such a love-bug! Last night, after I had watered, I watched him inspect every single pot – licking the plants, sticking his nose into the ground! As if he’s checking whether I watered properly! He loves the garden! He loves to sniff and lie under the Cosmos and Snap Dragons, he always comes running when I’m watering and he just loves to slalom around the plants!

It’s too hot to stay in the sun for long, I could feel my shoulders burning from just those short periods planting the flowers. I’ve put a load into the machine, so I should have some clean laundry again by tomorrow.

Yesterday we saw a thick cloud of smoke coming from the east blackening the horizon. Rose told me it’s a fire near the airport. Today I watched a plane fly very, very low overhead! Normally they keep their altitude flying out over the ocean, where turn and start their descent approaching the airport. Just a bit of trivia to worry over.

I don’t know why, but Lady Jane just came inside just to use the litter box! Now she’s back off playing in the garden. Ziva came to nibble some Whiskas, then sat in her box for a few minutes before rushing off downstairs as well. Strange cats!

I’ve just been reading the Way of Cats blog, about Moving with Cats – according to her, I should keep them indoors for at least three weeks, to allow their homing system to reset. Ai ai ai, three weeks is a long time! Especially for Ziva – but she, especially needs that! I don’t want to risk loosing her! But three weeks? Man, I’m going to go insane with the three of them bouncing off the walls! Well, if they do, that would be a good sign, at least.

Some light at the end of the tunnel: I just spend a couple of hours surfing the net for places to rent in Pretoria and found a few very promising places! They are mostly let by the owner, so they’re not listed on the popular site – which are dominated by agents. The listings are few and far between, but once I’m in Pretoria and if I’m not happy with the place that’s been found for me – there is hope! Unfortunately none of the places were still available – like I said: few and far between.

I tried the play-tactic again tonight, to lure my mippies in – but the outside was more alluring. When I was playing with Mewthos, Lady Jane wouldn’t come – and we played for quite a while. Later, Lady Jane popped in, but wouldn’t play for long – she turned her back on me and our game and ran outside.

I keep falling for the mistaken belief that they’ll come in eventually … they don’t! By half nine I went outside with the flash light. I finally spotted them – but they absolutely refused to come inside or even near me! They were running around Rose’s garden, where I can’t get to them! I called, I pleaded, I tried to bribe – nothing. Eventually Rose came out to see if she could help … no luck whatsoever! I walked up and down the path, when I was at the outside gate, they came towards the house but when I came back, they went back. Eventually I threw a pebble at Mewthos and he went flying towards the outside gate – I went stomping off down the path again and at least Lady Jane went upstairs … but now Mewthos was nowhere to be found! I feared he may have run out the gate and across the road, but Rose was sure she’d seen him come running back when I was near the gate. She thought he, too, had run upstairs. I went to check upstairs – no Mewthos. But now Felix joined the fun! And Ziva was just sauntering around.

I had just asked Rose if she would mind getting her remote for the gate, so that I could go into her garden from the road side to find Mewthos and hopefully either collect him or chase him home … when he suddenly appeared on the other side of my garden! He was clearly frightened – and then Felix cut off his path! A bit of a set-to between them and I circled around Mewthos to chase him towards the stairs. It worked! It was ten past nine when I finally had the two minis safely inside! And I can let Lady Jane out of the bedroom – I had taken the precaution of shutting her in when I came up to look for Mewly here.

Ziva showed up at half ten – and actually scratched at the door to be let in! Usually she just mips, or waits for me to open to call her.

I haven’t showered nor have I had dinner – I’m not happy. And it’s too late for either, now. Not that I’m hungry, anyway, so: no worries!
