Day 80 of 100, Friday 11th January

Just before I went to bed, my friend messaged to ask, whether I had some work he could do, as he was a bit short of cash – which suits me perfectly! He can pack the books for me, which is heavy labour and he’s a strong young man!

I slept reasonably well, despite the heat and woke around seven. As soon as my friend arrived, my mippies scattered! Ha Ha – especially Mew-Mew!

We sat and chatted, I made us breakfast – during which another piece broke off a tooth of mine. Sigh, if this keeps up, I’ll be a toothless gummy one of these days! Then we got the boxes out of the garage – I actually think that I might have enough boxes! But we’ll see when he’s finished today.

I packed the bathroom extras, the spare toiletries I had kept in the bedroom as well as some spare cleaning materials. It’s another hot day, and heavy labour makes one thirsty – since I have nothing in the house – my friend went to the shops to get some cold drinks.

While he was out, I looked for Mewthos … silly bugger was up the big tree at the back, again! And couldn’t get down! He is such a muggins! Instead of coming down, he follows Zivas voice and strolls onto the neighbours garage roof! Now he sits there … and Ziva sits behind the fence mipping. I pick up Ziva and lift her over the fence into my garden (I know she can jump, but I think it was the attention she needed – that I care enough for her, to help her, too!). Then I can try and coax Mewthos from the roof back onto the tree and slowly down to where I can reach him! I spend some time with each of them, reassuring them – they don’t like the stranger in their home!

Romeo has been chasing Lady Jane the entire morning! I’ve had to spray him several times to get him to leave her alone. Poor boy needs lovies, I know – but I can’t always attend to his needs, I have my mippies to think of, first!

Turns out the boxes I got from Spar that day, are mostly Simba boxes – they are a bit on the large side. And since he’s packing books … those boxes with be quite heavy! But at least there’s no problem finding boxes into which the large books can fit – which is always an issue with the bottle-store boxes. Win some, loose some!

Thanks to his help today, I’m now way ahead of schedule! I would have had to do those books a few boxes a day – whereas he’s just gone ahead and packed the whole lot! Wayy heyy – as a friend of mine would say!

Ai ai, poor Lady Jane! Romeo just won’t leave her alone! Just now I found her cowering behind some boxes in the kitchen with Romeo trying to climb over them to get at her! I don’t know what it is with him today, but he’s gone absolutely nuts for her today!

After my friend has left, I go looking for my mippies to let them know it’s safe to come home again. Romeo is still chasing my little girl! Rose was telling me that Shadow has been hiding in her spare bedroom for the past days – maybe it’s Romeo’s ‘mood’ that’s got her too scared to go out?

It’s really a very strange feeling to finally have finished all the packing! It hasn’t quite sunk in, yet, that for the next two weeks, I no longer have to stress. I can relax and pay more attention to my mippies – try to de-stress them as much as possible. Oh, there’s still quite a bit to do, but I can do it little, by little – and they are mostly small jobs, no big tasks anymore. Plus: I still have some boxes left over!

Ha Ha Ha! I just looked in the spare bedroom. I had showed my friend that he could pack the full boxes into the bookshelf … and he did fill ONE bookshelf! The other two bookshelves are left empty – and the boxes are stacked in the room, leaving hardly any space to move! Ah well, I have no reason to move around that room now, anyway, so: no worries!

I took a leisurely stroll down stairs, told Rose what I discovered for a laugh, and Shadow came past. She had licked the scab off the wound on her back and it looks really quite big! So I went upstairs and got the wound cleaning stuff I got from the vet, and we put that on Shadow. She wasn’t impressed, Ha Ha! But whenever I’ve put that on any wound – like Romeo’s chunk missing from his tail – a day later it looked much better. I left the stuff with Rose, in case she feels Shadow needs another treatment – but I’m confident it’ll look much better tomorrow!

On the way back, I watered the garden – with Mewthos in happy pink-nosed attendance! For the rest of the evening, I’m taking it easy … I’m surprisingly hungry, so maybe I’ll steam some potatoes?

Nah, I’m also exhausted today, I’ll just have another slice of bread or something. Tomorrow I’ll play housewife – depending on the weather, I might even get busy with the vacuum – the lounge still needs a thorough de-hairing! And I should also maintain the bedroom and passage carpets.

Romeo is still not letting Lady Jane out of his sight! I always know where she is, by looking a Romeo – who’s continuously meowling, so he’s easy to find – then follow is gaze!

Funny incident between Romeo and Mewthos – for some reason, Mewthos is quite taken with Romeo today. He’s been sniffing him without any signs of aggression or dislike, and then even went so far as to throw himself at Romeo for a rub-cuddle! Romeo had no clue what to make of this and got frightened, I think, because he went up on his hind legs and swatted at Mewly! Poor boy just wanted lovies! Well, he nonchalantly started rolling on the ground for me to tickle his tummy!

I tried calling in my mippies: Mewthos comes running at the word ‘munchie’, Ziva turns her back on me and Lady Jane? Takes absolutely no notice! Romeo, on the other hand, comes running eagerly!

Mewthos has his treat and strolls back outside! So, I thought I will try a different approach: I sit down with the rat-race stick and start playing with it – usually the mippies hear the noise of the stick across the carpet and come investigating! Yeah – not this time. Only Mewthos comes to investigate, we play – but he keeps looking to the door, as if he’s breaking a conspiracy by playing with me inside! Sure enough, he runs out at some point.

I considered waiting them out – but I’m too worried, especially about Mewthos! So I go outside to look for them … not a single mip in sight! Okay, so it’s getting dark – but I can usually spot at least one of the mippies! I’m getting rather worried, even afraid, the more I call and look and see nothing! Not even Romeo!

And then Mewthos comes strolling down the path towards me! I move towards him – and he turns around to go towards the gate, and I can see Ziva sitting on the path, by the garage! Phew! I play with Mewly a bit, but then Romeo gets under my feet, Mew gets a fright and starts running towards the road again! Man, my heart is stopping! Fortunately he listens to my calls and I pick him up and carry him all the way down the path – and spot Lady Jane stretched behind the flower pots – up the stairs, into the bedroom & shut the door. Same procedure with Lady Jane. And eventually the same procedure with Ziva!

Now I feel like I’ve run a mile! I don’t know why I bother to shower BEFORE I overexert myself with this new daily exercise! I don’t know why they do that to me, making me carry them one by one up the stairs!

Mewthos had eaten only the treat in his bowl – he left Ziva’s and Lady Jane’s untouched, so I suppose they did get their share of the treat. I did not give Romeo anything. I must stop him hanging around at this time of evening, when I want my lot to come in! And he has been an absolute pest today, all day long! I guess he can’t help it, but that still doesn’t make it fair on me.
