I woke at a more agreeable time, around six. Mippies
were eager to go out, they were noisy, mipping at me to open the door, and
restless. Mewthos keeps trying to saunter across my desk – not happy about the
water sprayed at him for his cheek! Around eight I’ve had enough and I open the
door – all mippies rush outside eagerly!
They stay outside the entire morning, finally relaxing
their guard on me! I’m enjoying my freedom!
At one point, Lady Jane sees the grasshopper! It’s
reached the top of the scratcher – and she does her utmost to reach it! I
managed to take several photos of her climbing as high as she could on the
scratcher!
Sometime later Rose calls me: Shadow has a strange
type of injury on her back! A patch of fur is missing, the skin is yellow and
swollen – and she does not like to be prodded and poked, she’s growling
non-stop! Pity she isn’t part of a family, like my mippies – they all clean
each other. Fortunately, though, she can reach the spot and clean it herself –
though only just! I’d keep an eye on it, though it doesn’t look serious.
When Rose and I concluded our daily chat, Mewthos is
missing! He’s not upstairs, I can’t see him anywhere, not by a spekboom, not up
the tree – nowhere! Rose comes out the back to look for him, I’ve checked
upstairs, she’s checked her flat … as we’re starting to worry he comes
sauntering along! No clue where he’s been!
Back upstairs I decide to wash the dishes. I took some
chicken out the freezer – not sure what I’ll do with it, yet. I’m hoping our
gardener comes to work for me tomorrow, which would hopefully give me a chance to
get away for the last grocery shopping in PE. I just need some bread and fruit
& vegetables. Not much, though. My diet is becoming rather restricted since
I have hardly anything left here – the pasta is packed, I have one tin of tuna
left, a couple of peas in the freezer … all in all, not much for a nice meal,
just enough for mix and match edible food.
Ah! I have a new pet! That grasshopper somehow made it
from the scratcher to my desk and now seems to be attracted by my blue T-shirt.
I let it walk onto my arm and carry it – right past Lady Jane – outside, into
the garden and place it on that large bush in the corner or Rose’s garden
(where she rarely goes – no need to give her a surprise!).
I started weaving Rose’s basket – awfully fiddly to
get that started! One of the wafts came loose and I had to re-glue it, then
wait until the glue had dried completely!
Since all mips had spent almost the whole day outside,
I didn’t expect any trouble calling them inside – and sure enough, they were
all here when I called! Ziva on the ledge, Mewthos and Lady Jane came inside
without trouble; so I put down their treat for them and … no Ziva! She refused
to come inside – just strolled up and down on the ledge, giving me half a heart
attack when she started rolling around the edge! I tried everything I could,
but she adamantly refused to come in. I even held out her treat so she could
smell it … sure, she liked it, but not enough to jump up and come inside! Now
things were getting difficult, since the mippies had cleared their bowls and
nudged me to get out the window! Hearing the commotion, Rose poked her head
past the ledge to see what’s happening! In the end I had to shut the window to
avoid a mini getting out … Ziva jumped off the ledge, onto Rose’s wall and
strolled up the stairs. Well, not immediately, of course! She let me wait a
full five minutes! I opened the door and she poked her nose in – while Lady
Jane was right by my side looking for a chance to dash out! What a mission!
I wonder why she’s being so … stubborn? What’s going
on in that clever little head of hers? I had given her treat to the mini’s, so
she lost out! But since all three bowls were licked clean, I gave them each a
second treat – well, Ziva’s first for today. Afterwards she settled on my
armchair with Lady Jane, while Mewly twirlied my jersey – which is on the
sleeper couch for that reason! He’s now sleeping on it, whereas Ziva wants some
of MY dinner!
