Day 77 of 100, Tuesday 8th January

I woke up at six and got up right away. Mippies were all dozing around the lounge – not one single mip had come to sleep with me!

Although it is overcast, it’s going to be a hot day!

I’ve tried calling my boss again – he still doesn’t answer. I’ve left another message, asking him to grant me the courtesy of returning my calls. It’s extremely stressful when your entire life – home & work – is dependent on someone who has never been in even a similar situation, and thus lacks the empathy to understand. At least, having been through this several times already, I know by now that the reason he doesn’t answer or return my calls is because he has no facts to convey. Just like he didn’t answer any calls until he knew exactly what would happen, regarding my future. He left me hanging until he was absolutely certain there was no chance for a project in East London – but as soon as he did know, he didn’t just call, but came to see me in person. That suits most of his employees – I’m the odd one out.

Right now I’m immobilized again – by fear, by stress, by indecision: so much to do still, where should I start?

Kitchen! Today’s mission is to pack absolutely everything I can do without from the kitchen. Strip it down the the absolute basics. And guess what I found under the sandwich bags? Toothpicks and kebab skewers! Which I had been looking for so desperately when I started rolling paper sticks! Well, since I’m managed without them all along, I packed them all.

Finally! My boss returned my calls! As I thought, he has no new facts. I reminded him of the Car License and the Petrol Card (both of which he’d forgotten) and asked if there is a possibility that someone else could drive my car from PE to Pretoria – and explained my reasoning. He said that might be tricky, but he’ll see what he can do.

Okay, kitchen is done. Now, I think, I should spend some time in it, since I’ve got the ingredients for a chicken salad – which is what I planned to do with the chicken I cooked day before yesterday. I haven’t eaten much of it, so I was thinking of shredding it and making a salad. I no longer have any bowls, so I’ll have to make the salad in a cooking pot!

It’s too hot for comfort again, so I try to cool down by having a few of the Litchi’s I bought yesterday – only to find that half are already growing mold! Well, they were expensive, so I peel and eat a few anyway. I’m keeping the rest for later.

I decided to use the ice cream container as a salad bowl, though that meant I had to wash the dishes first. Then I shredded the chicken – quite a laborious task. When I took a break, I saw some air movement outside so I went to enjoy the afternoon breeze – what little of it there was.

As I stepped outside, I saw Rose toddling up the road to feed the dogs for the friends who are on leave, so I decided to stay outside until she comes back. When she arrived, she invited me to enjoy her cool place! Who could resist? She can simply open her back door, which is almost opposite her front door – and she has a lovely breeze cooling her place at all times! While we were chatting, Lady Jane strolled in to entertain us! She continued to come and go, inspect here, munch a bit there the entire time. Later on, Romeo wanted to get to me – he could hear my voice, but couldn’t reach me. He was first at the back, then tried to come through the front – where Frankie told him in no uncertain terms that he’s not welcome! Eventually he jumped through the spare room window – and I chased him out, since he still sprays quite a stench in Rose’s flat! In desperation he tried to get past Frankie, who was now in the back courtyard – so I relented and said my goodbyes to Rose and came out. Oooh, wasn’t he just roly polying in ecstasy!

I watered the garden with Mewly and Roamy inspecting my work, then went upstairs and gave Roameow a brushing – shame, he seems to be getting alarmingly thin! I also gave him a wee bit of nippies – and he’s now a happy chappy!

I decided to shower early again – I fear there will be trouble getting mippies inside again.

Sigh, trouble indeed! The problem is Romeo – his mere presence is enough to keep Ziva away! And he is right by my side all the time! I’ve brushed him, I’ve nipped him, I’ve given him his treat – yet he’s still sitting right by the door, waiting …

Ziva has run off in disgust. I saw her just now and tried calling all my mippies to come inside – Ziva just saw Romeo on the wall and turned around and walked out the garden! Mewthos and Lady Jane are busy – they have no desire to come inside, either! Not so long ago, I just had to call and they all came bounding home at top speed!

I’m at my wits end. Romeo is still hanging around, he just chased Lady Jane inside – but she ran past him back outside! Mewthos and Ziva? No clue where they are … I tried spending some time outside, hoping they’d come to me … but they just went to the far corners of Rose’s garden! I’ve got their dosed custard all ready … all that’s missing is my mippies!

Oh no! It’s just gone eight, and – although Romeo seems to have wandered off – Felix has appeared! This is not funny anymore!

About twenty past, Mewthos comes strolling in, goes to the custard … turns up his nose and walks off! Sigh. Felix, however, has decided to follow … he has never come further inside than the scratcher, before! I’ve kept the outside bowl empty, since I want my mippies hungry, seeing as that seems to be the only reason they come in side after dark, nowadays! Eventually I get hold of Mewthos and shut him in the bedroom. That’s also going to be a problem one of these days, since the door handle is already loose and could come of one of these days!

I unlock the gate and call my mippies. This time, Ziva comes running! She comes past Felix and inside – I grab her and shut her in the bedroom as well. Lady Jane won’t pass Felix … so I go outside and grab her off the wall! Into the bedroom with her, then I go and lock up for the night. At least Felix is still wary of me, so I he keeps his distance.

Ziva and Lady Jane got their dose of CalmEze, since they both enjoyed the custard – Mewthos hasn’t had any, though.

For myself, I don’t feel like eating …
