Day 81 of 100, Saturday 12th January

Cor, what a change stress can make! With the stress temporarily removed from my life, I woke up around five this morning! Not quite ready to get up, though. I got up at six.

Mippies got quite restless, so I played with them for a bit – all three got involved in chasing the stick under a sheet of newspaper! Mewthos flopped himself smack in the center of the paper and clawed and chewed through it to get at the stick, whereas Ziva an Lady Jane sat around the edges, swatting and snapping at the stick, whenever it poked out in their direction!

Romeo is still besotted with Lady Jane and follows her everywhere! She came to relax on her window sill and he was right by her side, caterwauling his heart out! She doesn’t seem scared of him, exactly, more like exasperated. And yet, on occasions, I’ve seen her go to him, sniff his nose.

I’ve just received the strangest phone call! A lady called me from Kimberly. She found my number in a book, listed as ‘people to notify in the event of my death’ – yet I did not recognize the name of the person whose book it was! This lady somehow (I’m afraid I forgot) came into possession of a box of someone’s things; including his passport, several exercise books in which he’d written poems and odd scribbles, notes and all sorts; as well as his CV. Snapshots of his life emerged, of a lonely man, who worked around the country, even in Botswana – all during the 80s and 90s. I recognized none of the names mentioned were familiar to me. The box had been in her garage for years, and she only dug it out again, recently and decided to go through it. From his CV and other notes, she mentioned names and places, businesses where he worked – I don’t know how or where we could have crossed paths, since he was clearly at least a decade older than I am (he was working in 1980, when I had just started High School, in Germany). A lot of the writing sounded rather morbid, this man was evidently depressed and the lady suggested it he probably committed suicide. Various numbers he had written down were from all over the country, all Provinces! In my case, he wrote only my first name, though, and my cell phone number – which hasn’t changed since I first got a cell phone in 1996.

I’m still thinking, and I’m sorry to say that his name still does not ring a bell.

I’m feeling somewhat listless and deflated today – probably the sudden removal of pressure! It’s quite a bit cooler today, so at least the weather is nice. I’m just sitting back, watching Doctor Who for a while, and doing the odd bit of housework.

I’m now having trouble with the keyboard! It doesn’t react to my typing! Sometimes I’m missing letters, then the spacebar … this keyboard definitely is not the same quality as the one I had! I have to type letter by letter – 5WPM instead of my normal 75WPM! Frustrating! If I type my normal speed, I then have to go back and fill in all the missed letters. Grrrr.

I tried eating the rest of the Litchi’s, but I’m afraid most of them were beyond consumable … another grrrr! Since I’m feeling tired and listless, I decided to take a nap … which extended. I really need to wash dishes, but I just don’t feel like it.

Romeo is STILL tailing Lady Jane! He won’t let her out of his sight! She is getting rather exasperated, hiding in boxes and such.

Right, I’ve done the dishes – with Mewthos, Romeo and Lady Jane under foot! I nearly stepped on Lady Jane! She got her paws under my toes – then ran off, not listening to any apology!

And then I played a nasty trick on the minis! Both had come inside, so I shut the door! They came rushing to see and were very upset that the door is now closed! No going out! And it’s not quite twenty past seven, yet! I’m sorry, but today I just do not have the energy to go running up and down the stairs! I’ve given each a dose of CalmEze – they just licked it off the palm of my hand.

I just hope Ziva comes in without any trouble … Right now, Romeo is crying to be let in! I’ve opened to check for Ziva and told him ‘No!’. He will miss my mippies, when we’re all gone! Poor boy!

The worst part of this new behaviour from my mippies is: They no longer come inside during the day, so I can’t get away to get some groceries. I just need some fruit, nothing much else.

Five to eight, Ziva is at the door … she sees me holding back Lady and Mewthos, and won’t come in. Five past eight, she’s at the door again. This time only Mewthos is there, so I can grab her and drag her in! Phew!
