Day 79 of 100, Thursday 10th January

Not a very good night, thanks to the heat! Quite intolerable! I woke up soaked in sweat several times throughout the night. As a result, it was just after seven before I woke up. Sigh. At least I don’t have a headache.

Although there are a few promising clouds, we’re in for another day of heat and unpleasantness. Mippies have come inside – the pavement is too hot for mippies paws!

I had a laugh at Mewthos! He was stretched out on the window sill, when I heard a noise – when I turned my head to look, I saw him hanging by his claws on the sill! Inside, not outside! That boy can fall off a king sized bed!

Oh my, just now he came in and tried to jump onto the chair! And missed! He really is such a bumblebee! He has as much grace and delicacy as an elephant in a china shop!

I don’t know what to do today, it’s too hot for action. There’s a bit of a breeze outside, but no shade, yet.

Right, so I’ve measured the carpets and requested two quotes – one I sent via their website, the other business didn’t have that option, so I called. They quoted me a price that’s about a 3rd of what I expected! I’ve never had carpets cleaned before, so I had no clue what to expect – and guessed on the high side. I just need standard cleaning, no stain removal or anything like that. When I moved in, the carpets looked clean – but I quickly found out that the place was flea-infested (I had red rings around my ankles for weeks!) and every day more and more stains reappeared; so I’m not concerned with stain removal.

Oh, and I also got an sms asking if it’s okay for some lady to view the flat tomorrow after 17:00 – I replied that should be fine. The only problem is, that they’re usually fully booked at the end of the month – so they might not be available. I’ll worry about that, when we get there. At least they confirmed that, if stains re-appeared, no professional cleaning service was employed.

I went downstairs to at least get a bit of the breeze, then started trimming the flowers in my pots. But it’s too hot, even with the breeze, so I’m back upstairs. Rose was kind enough to get me fresh milk, so at least I have something cold to drink! Milk is about the only drink I enjoy refrigerated – everything else, I prefer at room temperature.

I’ve had the last chicken salad for breakfast, I don’t know what I’ll do about dinner – if anything. It’s too hot to move, over 30°C again. I’m glad I did all that packing yesterday, there’s no way I could move to pack even a single box today!

So now, I’ve downloaded the micro chip certificates for my pets. Apparently Mewthos became Menonos! He may be a Nunu, but he’s now Menonos! Ha Ha Ha. I tried to log into their website, but can’t. I can’t register, since my e-mail & cell number already exist – and I can’t login, since I didn’t register, so I don’t have a password. I tried calling – both numbers are busy. So I sent a web request for help.

Oh, and the flat viewing was cancelled, as the prospective tenant doesn’t want a 1st floor flat!

I was getting sleepy, so I decided to take a nap. When I got up, I found a reply from the micro chippers, so Menonos is now Mewthos! I’ve also updated that they are all sterilised, and was able to upload photos. I can upload up to thre photos per pet, so when I have some time, I’ll select the ones which show their markings and faces the best, and upload the best quality – rather than the small file size I use for this blog.

I tried to visit Rose again – I sure know how to pick my time, eh? I, again, picked the time when she was feeding the dogs! I went back upstairs and watched Doctor Who. When she had returned, I asked for her help – I still have some space in one of the flower pots, and I’d like one of those stunning white Pelegonia’s, but since they’re not in bloom now, I’m not sure which is the white one. I took a cutting, planted it and then watered my pots. Most of the plants seem to be doing well, so I won’t start with a bare garden, at least!

Ouch! I’m innocently sitting in my armchair, watching Doctor Who, when Lady Jane comes bouncing in – jumps onto the Ottoman … and nicks my leg! I was trying to move it out of her way and her back claw caught the side of my knee. Another sensitive area, and this time she drew blood. Sigh.

Oh gosh! I look outside, a car comes up the road and Mewthos comes running from the road through Rose’s gate! That is very worrying! He gives me a new grey hair every day!

Half eight, Mew and Ziva come inside, both sit down happily munching their treat – but as I go to shut the door, Ziva shoots outside! Argh! I’m getting too old to run up and down the stairs every evening, carrying naughty mips! Lady Jane is NOT keen on coming inside, and goes running away every time I get near her! Ziva also couldn’t care less! In desperation – after having called and called and pleaded and whined – I throw some stones at Lady Jane; in fright, she comes running towards me. I grab her and carry her up. Back down stairs for Ziva … she’s not having any of it. So I go up and shut the door. That’s at five past eight!

I’m exhausted and tired … but I have to wait for Ziva to decide she is ready to come in. Every few minutes I open the door and call her … so far, nothing. It’s now twenty to nine!

Ten to nine Ziva finally shows up! Phew, now I can go sit back, watch a show then go to bed when I’m ready. It’s awfully hot again, so I guess I’m in for another bad night. Rose said tomorrow will be just as bad as today …
