I did have a lovely night, but also a very long one.
When I woke up and realized it was late again, I figured ‘what the heck’,
turned over and went back to sleep. So it was half ten when I finally surfaced.
By that time, even patient Ziva was growing restless – she saw me open my eyes
and decided it’s time to get up.
I’m in no mood to go out, so I open up for the Mips to
roam. Which they do – and come back one after the other every couple of minutes
for a cuddle session. Especially Lady Jane – she is such a cuddle muffin!
Interestingly enough, Ziva also comes in for cuddles as regularly as either
Mip! Well, not like Lady Jane who is filling every gap I have to myself!
I met Rose in the garden and we agreed to meet later
for an outdoor session – if it doesn’t get too windy. It’s a clear, sunny day
today – but after the rains, it promises to be bearable and not too hot.
And, just for a bit of variety, Ziva brings in a dead
bird! She lays it at my feet then lies down next to it, not looking at me. Lady
Jane immediately goes to investigate and carries it under the table, where
Mewthos joins her and growls her away – that boy needs to learn about sharing!
So, to everyone’s disgust, I sweep it up and put it in the bin. Ziva runs out
in disgust – I’m afraid she’s not very happy with me! I just hope she doesn’t
bring me another bird!
Yeah, well, so much for that – she brought another
baby bird. This one’s still alive, but it’s a baby, I don’t think it has a
chance. It won’t even take water. I’ve put it in the cage for now. I suppose I
should have known – Ziva did inspect the cage yesterday, maybe she thought I’d
like her to bring me something to put in the cage?
I spent a couple of hours in the garden, mostly
cutting the grass. Why am I cutting grass when there’s a company being paid to
do that? Three reasons: Firstly, I would like to avoid them cutting down my
Cosmos, which are growing outside the bed (I don’t have to worry about those on
the path, they never cut any grass growing over the path, so they shouldn’t cut
flowers; secondly, I’ve cut a wide circle around the planter, so they have no
reason to demolish it further and lastly since they’ve left it for three weeks,
the grass is very high, and since they don’t rake it up, but just leave it, I’ve
cut from the path inwards so the mess isn’t on my path. So basically I’m
cutting the grass myself so I don’t have to suffer the consequences of those
people doing it. Lovely owner I have, eh? A total jerk.
Moving on, I managed to get not only a blister, but
open it as well, so showering will be a bit tricky tonight. I’ve cleaned it
out, cut off the loose skin and put a plaster on it. Lady Jane was inside
already, courtesy of The Terror. Mewthos eventually came up as well … mewling.
Ziva was here but went back out for another stroll – so I have to wait for her
to come in before I can shower. If she comes home while I’m in the shower – and
don’t open, she feels rejected and stays out for even longer. She doesn’t
understand why the door is closed; she’s learned to accept that when I’m away,
but if I’m home she may think I don’t want her inside. Cats are like that –
always expect the worst. And she’s had enough ‘worst’ in her short live – I don’t
want to add to her bad memories.
Mewly and Lady Jane, on the other hand, don’t have any
bad memories – well, Mewthos’ fall from the window. It still breaks my heart
seeing him hold his paw askew rather than putting it down on the floor like the
other. Every time I see that, or when he puts on the limp, I hurt. I just wish
there was something I could do.
Well, Ziva’s in, I’ve showered and the Mips are
snoozing on the chair next to me. Ziva is on the bed. Tonight, I’m doing my bit
to get to sleep – I’m having a cup of Chamomile tea. I just have to put my mind
to rest, that keeps spinning quite a bit lately, when I try to sleep.
