Leisurely Saturday

I got to bed really late last night, so I woke up equally late. All my felines have stopped waking me up in the morning – they happily and patiently wait until I get up. Would you believe that Mewthos is STILL trying to nurse? I caught him at it this morning! He is five months old! He’s getting into the humping age! Poor Ziva isn’t totally sure what she should do – so I have to step in and put a stop to that. Can you just imagine Mewly first nursing then try to hump Ziva?

I woke up with a headache, though – probably something about lack of fresh air circulating through the flat, what with all the windows closed all the time. So I’ve opened up a few today – fanlight in the bedroom (which only Ziva jumps up to) and lounge windows. If a Mip ends up on the ledge again, it will just have to climb up the pole this time!

I’ve also decided that today will be a day of leisure – I don’t need groceries today, it can wait until Monday. So I started the day – albeit very late – with a big English breakfast: Boerewors, fried bacon, tomatoes and eggs, plus some cheese. Bit of a hold-up when the power went out – apparently a power station was vandalized! But it wasn’t off for very long, and fortunately I had coffee – I boil a full kettle, then pour the hot water into a flask and make my top-up cups from the flask.

I let the Mippies out, they do stray further than before, but still not outside the garden – at least not that I know of, while I’m upstairs. They keep coming up for some cuddles before they go exploring again. Even Ziva keeps strolling in regularly – ha ha, now she’s hissing at Mewthos!

I’ve been re-watching Buffy, the Vampire Slayer lately, and I’ve got to Season 5, where Dawn appears out of nowhere. I remember when this first aired on TV, and week after week there’s this new character, seemingly part of the show – I kept wondering what I’m missing? I haven’t missed any episodes, so where did she come from? And howcome it’s as if she’s always been around – just like that, suddenly? These days one would go online and search for information – those days, although the internet was around, there weren’t millions of people posting about every thought they have – ha ha, like me with this blog! Anyway, Joss Whedon could keep the mystery going for several weeks. Which wouldn’t work these days.

Well, I got on with some hole-drilling and realized that I can’t drill the pilot holes with a hand-held drill. They need to be straight – and hand-held drilling isn’t straight, when someone as inexperienced as myself is doing it. So I’ll take the rods to work and ask one of the guys to drill me the pilot holes.

In the meantime, I’m reclaiming the path as mine from the weeds and cosmos growing everywhere. Cosmos, Nasturtiums, all growing all over MY path! I’m re-planting the lot! Which is firstly a lot and secondly not so easy with two little mips playing ‘What mommy doing?’ the whole time. Mewthos climbs into the waste bag, investigating every weed, both investigate every flower I re-plant … sigh. Cute, but also a little nuisancy. Yes, I know that’s not a word – I did mention I’ve been watching Buffy, right?

Well, I’ve re-planted a horde of cosmos. They have spread so thick along the path, in the end I pulled whole bunches and planted them in a bunch – up to ten in one place. Lastly, I watered, hoping they’ll take. Quite a lot already looked droopy – which is kind of strange, when you think about it. I mean, they grew on the path! Where I never added anything but poison to the soil! So, why are they being difficult about continuing their growth in a compost-rich bed?

Eventually it was time to go upstairs. I took the time to stand on the stairs, looking over the day’s work. While I stood there watching, something really funny happened: Ziva started digging a hole. Not just a hole, but a really, really deep hole! In my cornflower bed, of course – I guess it beats the vegetable patch! Anyway, she drops a load, fills the hole and walks away. All the while, Mewthos sat watching her like she’s doing something amazing. Then, when Ziva had walked off, he went and sat on that spot! I guess it was nice and warm, but seriously? It was just too funny! I really seem to have the the weirdest cats in the world!
They stayed out quite late today, but they were doing such a lot of zooming around the garden, the less energy they bring inside, the better!
