Not a good night, heavy waves of humidity throughout
the night. I had opened the fanlight, but Ziva kept climbing into that to sit
there – and the Mippies are ‘monkey see, monkey do’ and I can’t afford to risk
Mewthos falling out that window again! I
put the fan on for a while in the bedroom, but I can’t leave that on overnight
– not with Mippies investigating everything.
This morning I found my roll of paper towels had been
taken off the table and got a good joyride through the lounge from Lady Jane –
and: there was blood on it! On inspection I see that Lady Jane has pulled the
second stitch out as well. The cut is red but holding. So I decide to go to
work, rather than take her to the vet ... I pray that I don’t regret that
decision! She was very cuddly with me this morning.
The bruise on my arm is a lovely blue with a purple
center. The weather is overcast and drizzling – Ziva ran out early in the
morning and hasn’t come back. When I left for work I saw The Terror in Rose’s
garden, Rose’s tom in my garden and Ziva on the wall in between.
At work, no internet. Again! Also no milk. Fortunately
I have some Cremora for just such emergencies – my colleague has gone to the
canteen and will bring back some milk.
I just updated my budget – now I’m depressed. The cats
are still costing me a lot more than I can actually afford – but at least that
is at an end now. Their fleas are under control, the vet bills are almost over
and their food & litter is not really a lot. Even with all the wet food I
give them.
Well, since there’s no internet at work, so no work I
can actually do, I leave early. Half past eleven early. I’m also worried about
Lady Jane – what if she’s pulled that last stitch out … I’m not going to paint
the scenarios going through my head here, I don’t like gruesome.
I get home and she seems fine – but the cut is quite
red. So I took a photo and sent it to the vet – she says to come in, she’ll put
surgical glue on it. Great! Another vet bill! Thank you Milady! Well, the
alternative would be to re-stitch her … and that would require sedation, etc.
And she’d just pull them out again anyway.
And this was this afternoon - only one stitch left!
I’ve been keeping the Mips inside, because I was
worried about Lady Jane, and the vet only comes in at three, so I had to wait
before I could contact her. I have an appointment at quarter past four, so …
Muhaa haa haa – the vet put some surgical glue on the
wound. She was quite happy with that – but I know Milady! She started pulling
at her stitches just as soon as she was awake enough to reach them! So I
insisted on the cone of shame. Shame, my poor little girl – but cone of shame
for five days beats spilling her guts … literally!
Bump, bump, gate bars too narrow for cone :D
Lady Jane napping with her cone
When we first put it on, her head dropped right down –
unusual weight. It was quite funny! The helper carried her out, and as I was
leaving I saw Quizzy Lizzy in one of the cages! So I had to open up and say
hello! She was still groggy – and hungry, I’m sure. She paid very little
attention to me, poor girl must have been starving! I didn’t get a chance for
Lady Jane to say hello to Lizzy, though, as she had been carried out already.
Back at home, Mewthos was very happy to see his sister
– he didn’t want her to go again, kept trying to climb into the carrier with
her, when I packed her up! Ziva also said a happy hello to Lady Jane. Poor
little girl is having some trouble with the cone – but the good news is: It
doesn’t fit through the bars of the gate, so I can keep the door open!
All was well, I was relaxing ... and then Lady Jane
tried to snuggle down in one of my two flower pots! It toppled over, onto Lady
Jane – like the first one did onto Mewthos. She shoots through to the bedroom
in fright, closely followed by Mewthos … who, seconds later, comes shooting OUT
of the bedroom in fright, through the gate, down the stairs … and that scared
me! THIS is how cats get lost! As he’s shooting past Ziva, her tail bushes out
and she starts running down the stairs in fright … no sign of Lady Jane!
I eventually find Lady Jane in the far corner of the
bedroom, wedged between bed and wall. There’s also some yellow streaks across a
cushion and a lot of streaks on the wall! Do not ask! First things first, pick
poor Lady Jane out of her predicament and calm her down. Next: Clean the wall.
Next: Find Mewthos. Poor boy is frightened – but at the bottom of the stairs.
Ziva is halfway down the stairs. I call Mewthos and he comes up – albeit reluctantly.
I pick him up to take him indoors – he does not want to! Starts fighting me! So
I take him through to the bedroom and shut him in there; because I need to go
to the gate – and if I go there, Mips follow.
So I go to the gate, and while I’m in Rose’s garden,
Lady Jane somehow wriggled with the cone through the bars and is enjoying
downstairs! So I rush to get to her before she decides to try and jump up the
fence – and possibly get stuck! Lady Mip has gone upstairs and is sitting on
the wall! My heart nearly stops! She’s top-heavy with that cone – and I don’t
even want to imagine her falling that distance onto the concrete stairs!
Lady Jane inside, so I can let Mewthos out – and shut
the door! Sigh – in this heat! Now Mewthos is napping on the chair next to me,
and Lady Jane under my chair – giving me a chance to catch up on events.
I just got time to look at the vet’s bill: she’s
really nice, she didn’t charge for the consultation nor for the glue, she only charged
for the collar. That’s the second time she didn’t charge for a follow-up –
technically she could have. But on the other hand, when the other vet did Ziva,
there was only one stitch and it was so tight, even though she tried her best,
she didn’t manage to pull it out.
I also found some Mip teeth on the carpet – seems they
are loosing their milk teeth!
Both Mips are high maintenance today: Lady Jane
because it’s awkward with that cone and Mewthos because he’s feeling neglected,
or jealous of all the attention Lady Jane is getting. Who knows? He’s always
been high maintenance.
Shame, Lady Jane reminds me of a bumblebee at the
moment, the way she keeps bumping at spaces too wide for her cone and struggling
to even jump onto the chair. Other times her head keeps tilting downwards, then
the cone rests flat on the floor and she looks like a furry suction cup!
