Mippy gets her tummy shaved

Yesterday was not very different from Saturday. I got up not too late and found the energy to get my monthly bulk groceries. After a few hiccups: First I took a wrong turn and drove off to Sunridge Spar – so I had to take the long way to Makro. Then, I got the opening times wrong – they don’t open 8:30 but 9:00 on a Sunday. Though, since I was running late for 8:30, I was only 9 minutes early for 9:00.

Halfway through the shopping, I felt as if my energy was draining right there and then. The rest of the shopping was quite a drag – carrying everything upstairs, even more so. That was pretty much it. Carried everything upstairs, packed it away and had no energy for anything else.

This morning I woke up nice and early. Ziva went out and when she came back informed me of a problem in the kitchen – yeah, no food and no water. Why? Lady Jane is going for her sterilization today, so no food or water from ten last night.  Eventually Ziva drives me nuts, so I pack Lady Jane in the carrier and put food and water out – both Mewthos & Ziva climb into it.

Took Lady Jane for her tummy shave, I can pick her up after three. I’ll get a call to tell me all’s gone well – had to sign a consent form for the sedation! Strange, because I didn’t sign one for Mewthos that time. Anyway, she’s at the vet, I left her investigating her ‘cage’ – it’s really large with a litter box and a pet bed!

As I left, on a whim, I decided to go and get bread for work lunches. On another whim I drew some cash and bought some electricity – the price has gone up, again! Back at home, Mewthos is driving me absolutely insane – I guess he’s missing his sister, because he just clings to me like Velcro. He goes out for a few minutes, then comes back mewling. He’ll jump on the chair next to mine and put his paw on me demanding attention. If he keeps this up all day, I’m tempted to take him to the vet for sedation!

Sigh, very, very tempted. He’s under my feet if my move, and if I don’t attend to him, he climbs on my vinyl records where he knows he’s not allowed! I’m trying to do the dishes and he jumps up on the counter, where he’s also not allowed! With the gardener working today, he’s wary of going out. He’s also picking up every item of clothing and doing his twirly thing with it. Not just once, but over and over. Since I’ve picked up almost everything and put it in the machine, he’s now resorting to the throw behind me they like to sleep on.

Good news, though: I don’t feel drained today – so it’s definitely the weather. Last night was almost cold – well, compared the the unbearable hot and humid of the previous couple of nights. So, even though I did get up a few times during the night, I must have gotten more or better sleep than the previous nights. Today it is also overcast and temperatures are below 30°C, albeit only just. So I’m taking advantage and doing some of what I had planned for the weekend. Won’t get too much of it done, only one day’s worth.

Laundry is done – Mewthos watched the machine – hanging up despite Mewthos’ help, and here he is again, mewling and flopping everywhere for belly rubs. The vet’s office just called, Lady Jane is fine, the vet just wants to check on her before afternoon consultations, and I can pick her up after three.

As I’m sitting at my desk, Mewthos is doing his best ‘I’m a sleepy, lovely, good boy’ impersonation! But as soon as I get up – he’ll get up, mewl, flop and mewl some more!

Finally! Time to pick up Lady Mip and escape Mewly for a while! Milady is still quite dazed and very wobbly on her paws. But already busily cleaning her shaved tummy. Only half of it is shaved and she has three or four stitches. Which she is already trying to pull out! So I have to pay intensive attention, letting her clean herself but stepping in every time she tries to pull out a stitch.

The receptionist tells me to keep her still … but not when to bring her back to have the stitches removed – I had to ask her. Nor has the vet signed the certificate / booklet. Again, I had to ask for that. This vet has a lovely elderly help in the mornings – but in the afternoons and weekends? Youngsters with no real interest in either the patients or their concerned owners. Keep a five month old, curious kitten still! Yeah – without sedatives? Seriously?

Mewthos was very happy to see Lady Jane, licked her welcome. Even Ziva licked her ‘hello’ – and now that she’s home, both of them went off outside. I have no idea where they are, since I’m watching Lady Jane. Fortunately I don’t need to look at the keyboard when I type. I just hope she’s learned the lesson about not pulling stitches by tomorrow morning – I don’t want to come home to find Lady Jane with her guts spilled. They come out in ten days – that’s a Thursday. I’ll make a plan next week. For now, I’ll just try to keep her insides where they belong.

Well, here’s a strange turnup for the books: both Mips are napping at four in the afternoon! Mewthos is on the chair next to me and Lady Jane on the blankie – her back legs don’t quite support her, yet, when she jumps off the chair or my lap.

Great! My mind is so preoccupied with Lady Jane, I just took off my socks and threw them in the kitchen bin! Fortunately it’s Monday, so I just put a new bin liner inside. So I just picked them out and put them in the laundry basket. Then I go wash my hands, turn around and bump into the door handle! The door wasn’t all the way open – that bathroom is just too small! I have to do aerobics or yoga every time I try to dry off. And now I have a lovely big bruise on my upper arm. Again!

Well, Lady Jane is evidently back to normal! As it’s getting dark, she’s still outside – in Rose’s garden! I call her and – for once – she comes when called! I give them a treat – apparently they don’t like steak flavour – so I add a sachet fish flavour. Then Mewthos rolls up on the chair and Lady Jane on the blankie – cleaning herself and pulling at the stitches every now and again! Getting shouted at, smacked and sprayed with water every time.

Ziva meanders in, visits the food bowl then settles down on the blankie giving Lady Jane a thorough wash. Lady Jane’s cut looks a bit red – and there are only two stitches now. Ai, ai. I thought it was bad going through that with Ziva! I’m teetering along on my last nerve, here!

The good news, though: I’ve gone through the entire day without a complete energy drain! Well, until just now – half nine, when I made tomorrows lunch and it got suddenly humid again. The humidity this year is really, really bad – it comes in waves, like someone pushes a ‘hot’ button and suddenly you’re covered in a layer of perspiration. I would suspect menopause, except it’s not just me. I’m well into the preceding many paws – twelve paws in my home – but these hot flushes are related to the weather.

Not being abe to get fresh air coming through here, doesn’t help much either! Can’t open windows because Mips tend to fall out of them. Can’t keep the door open after seven because Mips tend to wander out of them. The shut bedroom windows is the worst! I can’t stand sleeping with the windows closed – and I’ve endured that for months, now! Well, with an intermission – when I thought it would finally be safe to open the window … and Mewthos fell out!

Well, I’ve brought the fan into the lounge at least that helps a bit. And now Mewthos is cuddling with Ziva on the blankie. Lady Mip is playing with their pet rock. She’s back to normal, eating, playing, pulling stitches …
And I’m off to bed. Hopefully I’ll sleep tonight and wake up early.
