Lock-down Day 365

Somewhat late morning, filled with mewls and mips, followed by coffee ...

At work, I gave our HR Lady the gift I had made for her. A teeny pot with those rose-shaped baby succulents. I used a 100 ml bottle, and managed to fit 4 plants in it. I'm sitting with an absolute abundance of them - they are escaping the bed and trying to take over my little back lawn ... so, I'm trying to think of ways to 'get rid' of them, without destroying them.

I quickly went to get milk ... and got a little more than just milk. They had coffee on special, not my preferred flavour, but it'll do. They also had fish fingers on special.

I've published my Gardening Journal - the photo's I took last night.

I'm also keeping an eye on the news, as another 'family meeting' is imminent. We're very likely to go back to Level 2 Lock-down over the Easter weekend ... based on our current progress, it will take us only 2 decades to vaccinate enough people to achieve 'herd immunity' ... today marks the anniversary of the last day of open living. Lock-down started 27th March 2020 - expected to last no more than 3 weeks. I don't even want to think about this last year ... going from bizarre to unbelievable stupidity ... and where are we, now? Still sliding downward, with no light at the end of the abyss ... I just don't want to even think about it!

Nobody, and I mean absolutely nobody seems to have retained even the smallest amount of common sense - everyone seems to be greedily scrabbling over those who have fallen, demanding their personal right. I see it on the roads, with so many drivers overtaking slow-moving traffic - putting EVERYONE at risk, with impunity, just for the illusion (not reality!) that they are getting where they're going faster ... I see it in the stores, when I look at the prices! How every business seems to believe it's logical to increase their prices beyond affordability, to 'recover' their own losses ... with no comprehension that shoppers don't magically find more money, so we have no choice but to buy less ...

And then there is the complete opposite: groups which formed before and during the lock-down to help those in most desperate need, to give a voice to those who have been silenced, to take action and do what needs to be done - rather than just voice their discontent wailing 'should' ...

I'm just re-reading my post of 26th March last year. THAT is when I got the Avocado's! Ha Ha, so store-bought a year ago, eaten some time later and grown one year before they moved to the garden!

Well, I'm working on my daily seed progress. My plan for the weekend is to sow the Delicious Monster, Frangipani and Pelargonium seeds. The all benefit from pre-soaking, but that's the only 'extra' needed. I think I'll start each in a 300 ml bottle.

It's now quarter past two and the delivery hasn't arrived, yet. I tried calling, but got an answering service ... so I left a message. I did reply to yesterday's mail, explaining that we close at 14:30 on a Friday ... nothing more I can do, I'm afraid.

Back at home, this is what I find:

Janey's been busy!

After I fix that, I started mowing the lawn. The back lawn was worth the effort, but when I started in the front - I couldn't tell the difference between mowed and untouched. So I left it ...

The avocado tree is drooping a little, just like my flowers around the back - both need water!

Ten to four, I'm called by the driver ... the delivery is at work. I apologised, but really, there's nothing further I can do. He said they'd deliver it Tuesday. I must remember, in future, to place the order either on a Friday or weekend. Never again on a Thursday! Lesson learned!

Phoebe is getting really fat!

I set the sprinkler on the back lawn, as the flowers are also looking droopy, then I sat down to decide what I should do next.

I decide to start with some seeds. I'm soaking the Frangipani seeds, so I can plant them tomorrow. I have 3 bottles left, so I plant 3 Pelargonia seeds. Then, I want to soak the Delicious Monster seeds - but they're already sprouting! So, I simply plant them. Let's see what happens ...

Now what do I do?

I think I'll put up the greenhouse! It was really easy. I didn't even need to refer to the instructions - which didn't give any steps, just showed the full assembly. First, I put together the frame:

It's very wide! Wider than my beautiful shelf. Almost half a meter!

The cover was easy - just getting it over the top, without help, was a bit tricky.

The finished goods!

There are a couple of straps inside, to tie the cover to the shelf, four at the back - top and bottom - two in front, in the center.

Look how much space there is! And if I want to grow tall plants,
I can simply remove the trays, open it up!

Smeagol had been for dinner again - poor boy isn't eating much. I don't know whether that means he's eating elsewhere, or whether something is wrong. I noticed his ticks are gone, so I'm hoping someone is able to get closer to him, than I can.

Mippies are already waiting for me, and come in for their treat. Two treats down, I come to the bedroom, look out and what do I see?

You think I can't count? We've had 2 treats - I'm waiting!
Where is the third treat, mommy?

So, I start uploading the photos, first to this blog, then the gardening blog ... error message: not enough memory! Ah, well! I thought that would happen sometime, the rate at which I've been taking photos? I'll connect to the PC tomorrow and clear the memory ... as I'm sitting on the bed, uploading photos, Mini is playing around on the shelf ... suddenly it topples! Mewthos goes to investigate ...

You can see Mini's tail between the shelves ... she's trying to fix what she just did!

Now I just want to watch something easy then go to sleep ...
