Lock-down Day 352

Power went out again at six - load shitting! At least I can have coffee! And - unlike last night - at least I have internet!

So, I'm spending the morning updating my blog, which I couldn't do last night.

Misty view along the river this morning

With another outage scheduled from two this afternoon, I had better do laundry and such this morning!

I just had a look at the labels of the meat I bought, I won't need to re-pack and freeze any of that - best before dates from 20th - 30th March! That's because it already is vacuum packed. I've put one pack of beef strips into the freezer, I'll use the other one tomorrow.

Laundry is hanging to dry, so there's really nothing else on the 'must do' list today. Lots tomorrow, but nothing today. Maybe I'll make the Stroganoff this afternoon? Take the pressure off tomorrow ...

I tried clearing along the wall, so that I can finally plant the Spekboom - they desperately need it! But the 7 mm rainfall last night were not enough to soften the ground. I couldn't get the fork more than a few millimeter into the ground! Plus, the sun came out as soon as I went outside - and I really don't want to risk sunstroke! It's not fun!

So, I moved under the car port. I've decided to make a bed at the edge of the driveway and sow Marigold there.

Power went out, on schedule, at two, back on at four. I cleared a wide space, I couldn't really dig very deep, the ground is still too hard. But Marigold are hardy, they'll do fine there. I hope. Well, I sowed seeds and watered.

Then I started clearing in front of the veranda, along the path to the partition outside my bedroom. The soil there is really good! That's why the weeds are doing so well there. It's also soft and still moist soil, so it keeps the water from rain. A really good place to plant something ...

And that got me thinking, about planning with the seeds. I think the best way forward is to just keep clearing spaces, as I can and feel like, and when it's clear, think about what would be good there, and then start the seeds for that!

I was thinking about that strip along the path outside the veranda. I would need to widen it. Quite a bit, actually. And it's mostly thorns growing there, with an odd tuft of grass poking through in between. At first I thought some nice, tall flowers would be lovely - I could see them from the veranda. But then I thought, it would be awkward having to walk around to get to the partition outside my bedroom ... so, something short would probably be best. Not Nasturtiums - they just take over in a big way, path, lawn, everywhere ... same goes for Alyssum. So, maybe Chamomile? They would look lovey, and smell lovely, too. Or Gazania! They'd add some colour! And in the corners, I could try my luck with Lavender - yes, that's tall, but in the corner, that would be okay. And the other corner, maybe, if I can get a Frangipani growing there?

And that's a whole lot of seeds to play with next weekend! I can spend this week preparing the guides, reading up how best to get each of these growing. And Frangipani smells lovely, that would be nice to have outside my bedroom! Not too close to the house, they can grow quite tall, you don't want the roots to mix with the structure. But yeah ... there's room!

And in front of the front door, next to the driveway, there I could plant tall flowers. Like Cornflowers, Aster - not Cosmos, they just take over, ha ha! I want Cosmos outside the garden, along the wall, in front.

Well, things are falling into place. Slowly, but surely. Yes, on some things I'm sowing and planting at the wrong time of year, but I'm keeping seeds for doing it right. I'll get there ... happy times!
