The power went off less than an hour after they suspended load shedding.
We had a thunderstorm at the time, so I guessed that lightning probably hit something. The timing couldn't be worse, though: the municipal workers are still on strike, so there's no knowing whether they have anyone to work on the problem and then, with the local elections on Monday ... who knows ...
Saturday was still bearable, though - of course, without the ceiling fan - I didn't have a good night. I spent the entire day in the garden. Thoroughly cleaned most of that section under the Jacaranda & peach trees. With the 10 mm rain we had overnight, I could get a lot of roots out.
Around noon I asked on our WhatsApp group if anyone knew anything - apparently two poles were out. That's all. Nobody had any information.
Sunday was bad. No water! I don't know why, as I know I didn't use the whole tank - neither did my neighbour (turns out, he wasn't home all weekend). And I had a migraine waving up and down the whole day, so I spent the entire day in bed. Sleeping as much as I could.
I moved what I could from the fridge to the freezer, though I noticed, some of the frozen meat was already beginning to defrost ...
Around two, my phone rang. One of my neighbours had posted an update in our WhatsApp group - and when he saw that nobody even received it, he assumed it was that we had run out of power on our smartphones, and he decided to call each of us to tell us! Awfully considerate of him, I truly appreciate that! Apparently the municipality WAS working on the problem, and we should have power in a few hours!
By six, we still had no power. And no water. My neighbour called, as our landlord had heard about the outage, and asked if we were okay. I told him about the water situation and he promised to come early tomorrow morning to hook the generator to the water pump.
By nine that night, more than 48 hours later, the power came back on! I messaged my neighbour. And I put everything on charge - WiFi router, smartphone, even my phone, even though it still had tree bars. I flushed the toilet, too. Turned on my PC, set up my audiobook and went back to bed.
Good thing I don't have to work tomorrow!
