Day 13 of 100, Monday, 5th November

I slept well enough, but woke up a bit late, around eight. Let the Mippies out about quarter past while I had my morning coffee. I put the freshly defrosted bread into the oven … and nearly forgot about it! But got it out before it burnt!

By that time the Mippies had settled down and Ziva and Lady Jane were inside, so I got dressed, got ready, called Mew-Mew, tricked them with a treat and went out to Makro.

First, I stopped at the vets, though. They had 2 catnip shakers, and I also asked what it would cost to have Ziva microchipped. I am so scared of loosing her! If I let her out too soon – will she run ‘home’? If I keep her shut in too long, will she just dash out as far as she can when I do let her out? Maybe I need to let her out with a harness, at first? And even if she’s fine at first – will she run, when I go to work? I’m just thinking what happened when Rose went to hospital for a few nights – Shadow refused to come in, and when Rose came back home, Shadow had ‘moved out’ … didn’t come back ‘home’. Only when we caught her, took her to the vet for her nose and Rose shut her in for over a week so her nose could heal, did she re-set her ‘home’ to Rose’s. And even now, she’s mostly out and about – just pops in now and then. That’s not a problem, though – she does come to Rose regularly! What if Ziva has a similar reaction to to the trauma of moving? And she’ll be far, far away from her territory! She has come such a long way, so very different from the starving streak of silver we saw in the garden now and then. She plays! She comes for nightly cuddles! She’s happy! I hate even having to take the chance to jeopardise any of that!

They didn’t have any Tonic Water, even though it’s on special. Not a single bottle. They didn’t have my chocolate, only rum and raisin. The Whiskas sachet price had gone up, but not back to normal, so I took another 6 boxes. I won’t have to go back again this year. Hopefully!

Next I went to Sunridge Spar. No bread. They no longer make the Boboti Vetkoek either, I used to treat myself to. I took some roll-dough and a number of salads. No cat litter, either. So I treated myself to a small Sushi and a Roast Beef Panini? They have such a lot of different names for everything these days, it’s quite confuzzling.

Next stop Acres Spar for meat. On the way, I work myself up to giving the bank a try for proof of residence. So I turn off, to get to Greenacres – only, that place is filled to the rafters! No way! So I drive past and on to Spar. The place is bearable, not too full. I see they are now putting their meat in specially printed bags – you can only see the meat, if you turn it over! Well, I get what I need, and decide to take some prego-meat as well for the rolls. No cat litter here, either. Good thing I still have three bags, but I’ll really need a stash in Pretoria!

Back at home, there had been a pool of water from the outlet by my gate. I figured I’d have to call someone when I get back home, but since it isn’t gushing water – so it’s not wasting water – I figured it could wait till I’m back. Only, when I get back, the pool had seeped into the ground and there’s no more pool or puddle. Bonus!

I carried all the fresh goods inside, my friend can carry the heavier stuff tomorrow. After a short break, I unpack everything and sit down for a very late breakfast. Again. I really need to do something about my eating habits!

Afterwards I decide to go out and collect some more seeds and pick some Carnations. The cactus is already covered in yellow flowers with a host more promising to open soon – so I get my camera and take a photo-tour, Mips in tow! Mew-Mew keeps jumping up at me for lovies, then rolls on the ground, showing his white tummy! So I give him a good tummy-rub and back-scritches – they’re all around me now, following my steps.

I realise that the garden service must have been here on Friday – I never noticed. For a change, they didn’t mow down the lily growing in my lawn; though they did mow down Cosmos and Nasturtiums. Ah well. There’s one dark maroon coloured Nasturtium in the middle of the patch by the fence, I must remember to try and get some of its seeds once they are ready! The seeds currently on the plant, aren’t ready to come off, yet. But that’s a rare colour – would love to be able to keep it!

As I’m going back upstairs, Felix shows up. Settles himself on the scratcher for a snooze. This time I get a chance to ascertain that he is indeed male and – as I suspected – not neutered. Sigh!

I’m so sleepy and tired right now, I think I’ll take a nap.

I was allowed half an hour before Mewly came mewling through, jumped on the bed, walked over me, mewled into my ear and then went off again. He really has a very annoying mewl! Not at all cute, pure mewsance! But he is my little darling boy! Loves to have his face covered in kisses – none of the girls will sit still when I try!

I’m afraid I should spend the rest of the day taking care of mundane household chores, just because I’m moving, doesn’t mean I stop living while I pack. I still need dishes and clean clothes and groceries. So, I folded and packed the laundry, mixed a batch of kittie food – I’ve started mixing the Indoor adult food with the last of the kitten food, now at least it’s being eaten! They all get quite excited when I get busy with cat food! Ha Ha!

Cat howls outside … off I dash to rescue whoever needs to be rescued … Mewthos and Felix seem to have attacked poor Romeo, who’s lying on his back, claws extended! Rose came dashing out as well – they only separate when Rose comes near. Felix just hides under the Spekboom, Romeo runs off and Mewthos sits where Romeo had been cornered! Frankie also comes to investigate – all cats with bushy tails and back-fur standing on end! Rose and I have a quick chat – but it’s really cold now. She tells me it will get even colder tomorrow. Sigh.

Back upstairs to washing dishes. Not much, but I have only 1 clean coffee cup left. I’ve tied the pool noodle to the scratcher – mippies like! Ha Ha!

Good thing I did the dishes when I did … would you believe we have no water? Again? Yeah! Apparently the work they did on Saturday didn’t fix the problem so now they’re busy faffing around again. Apparently working around the clock, so no clue when we will have water again! That is the 3rd time in less than 2 weeks! Well, at least my water bottles are still full, I’ve just re-filled the kitties water … just: no bath, and no flushing toilet!

Felix seems to like it here, he’s quite happily staying on the scratcher. I’m taking a chance leaving the door open past the normal indoor-mippies time … yet, all my mips are inside. Well, Mew & Lady are out, but only on the stairs. So, I re-fill the outside Whiskas bowl and close the door. Felix doesn’t like this and howls a bit to be let back in – he doesn’t look well-fed or looked after, I’m afraid, but I can’t add any more cats to my society! I’d have taken Snoopy, if he was still alive – though that would have meant doing to Romeo what his death did. Well, I have my three to entertain, feed and care for.

And now that it’s dark, I’m hearing fireworks! Don’t see anything, just a lot of noise. Why? Guy Fawkes is an English thing, so why are South Africans – who despise everything colonial now – celebrating Guy Fawkes? One loud bang very close has Ziva and Mewthos sit up in the chair near the window, but Lady Jane on the sleeper couch doesn’t stir.
