Day 12 of 100, Sunday, 4th November

I woke up to a strong smell of smoke … I checked the flat, nothing burning. When I looked outside … the whole sky is brown! I can also hear thunder. Should I let the cats out? Or keep them safe indoors? Sigh … safe sounds good, but they also drive me insane when they want out but can’t! So … I open the door.

Ziva takes a good look outside and decides inside is much, much nicer! The Mips also don’t spend too much time outside, just burning off some energy and they come back to snooze the day away. At times they mip at me to play or just for attention, but mostly they’re quiet.

Except, when Ziva came and brought in another bird! She came running up the stairs with it in her mouth – its neck was broken, so at least it was dead. Then stood just outside the gate looking at me – so I waved my finger ‘no’ at her and said ‘No’ as well. She turned around and went running down the stairs, so I thought I got lucky and she finally understood that I don’t like the mess in my bathroom! Yeah … not a minute went by and she came running again, this time she didn’t stop and went straight to the bathroom. But didn’t eat the bird … called me to come look! So, I praised her hunting skills and hoped she’d eat the whole bird. Yeah, also not. I cleaned up when she had gone out again. Of course I didn’t get all the feathers – that’s just not possible.

I visited Rose – it was just too unpleasant outside. At least the wind was warm and not icy, but it was awfully strong. We had a lovely chat, as always – hadn’t seen each other yesterday, since she was out all day. I even got Abby to purr! She spends all her time on the bed, now; quite happy. Eats, sleeps, uses the litter box – just doesn’t want to go anywhere anymore. She used to spend her days outside, sleeping in the far corner of my garden, but now she won’t even leave the bedroom. Well, she’s going on 16, that’s about the equivalent of 90+ in humans.

For some reason my PC kept crashing this afternoon. Well, not the PC actually, more like a power interruption which kept re-starting it. Yet there was no flicker in the lights – and nothing touched the cables. My UPS isn’t working anymore – they only last a short time, I’m afraid. All of this kept happening while I was busy handing over that complex spreadsheet … we did a trial run together. Well, we did manage to iron out some issues and I’m hoping tomorrow he’ll be able to take over. Ha Ha, he just said in chat how ‘As I suspected, what we see is just the tip of the iceberg’ – meaning the daily maintenance of the spreadsheet. Wait till he starts getting the mails throughout the day, as well! It sometimes amazes me just how childish some people can behave, just because it’s a game.

My friend messaged and asked if it was okay to re-schedule for Tuesday. No problem.

With this hand-over going on most of the day, I didn’t prepare anything to eat. I had breakfast, but that’s it. So for dinner I finished an old pack of biltong. I’m not too fond of it, lately – used to love it. Funny how tastes change.

Well, I didn’t wake up so early this morning, since I struggled to go to sleep again last night. I’m hoping for a better start tomorrow, because I’d like to go do the second half of the Makro shopping. Sigh, I’m not looking forward to that. Not at all! But it’ll be the last time this year.
