Day 11 of 100, Saturday, 3rd November

No water today, so there’s nothing much I can do. So I’m taking a break from the move today. Instead, I work out a plan for my little city in the online game.

It’s really quite a complex game – like most strategy games. But the trick with this one is the city layout. As buildings get bigger, they change size and shape, so they no longer fit and you need to puzzle how to not only fit them, but also how to get from before to after. Space is limited, which makes it a real mental challenge. You can’t ‘store’ buildings while you re-arrange you city and you can’t rotate buildings, either. So, technically, every change needs a plan. And that’s what I did today – I prepared a step-by-step plan for the small, new city I built. Otherwise I’ll end up stuck …

A lot of fans of the game have put a lot of time and effort into creating websites filled with information, tips, tricks and strategies. There is even a ‘tool’ called the Architect, where you can load your city’s layout and then play around with it – not affecting your actual city. So you can actually create a very efficient design, making the most use out of every available square of space! The plan I prepared isn’t perfect – just good enough … it’ll do. All I want is to avoid getting stuck. Nothing more.

The water only came back late in the evening – only just in time for me to still take a hot bath before going to bed. The water was brown, but I didn’t care – I just wanted to get warm, and I did.
