Early night, late morning – don’t ask!
Work was – work. Back at home, Rose tells me Ziva
spent most of the day balanced on the fanlight with her Mip Mips watching her
from the window sill. When I opened up, I thought she’d surely rush to the door
and out … nope. Just sat there, looking at me. So I spent about ten minutes
giving her my undivided attention. She only went outside to welcome Rose! Sat
on the top step around the corner waiting for her, then came back in with Rose.
Once Rose was here, she went outside though. I closed
the door and used that opportunity to change the newspaper in the bird’s cage.
I also cleaned the food and water bowls, put in fresh water and fresh food.
Rose kindly held the bird while I cleaned his cage. When we put him back
inside, he immediately went at the fresh mousse as if he’d been starving all
day! Yeah, like starving could happen in my home! No bird, no cat and no person
has ever gone hungry in my home!
Then we put the bird back into the spare bedroom and
let the Mip Mips out and Ziva back in! Throughout the visit we have the usual ‘Ziva
in / Shadow out’ and ‘Shadow in / Ziva out’ exchange at the front door.
Seriously, they do that all the time! The other only goes out when the first
one comes back inside. I should install a revolving cat-door!
As I’m playing rat-race with the Mip Mips, Ziva starts
joining in – not enthusiastically, more ‘experimentally’. Like she’s trying out
this ‘play’ thing I keep talking about. Then, at some point she goes through to
the bedroom and starts meowing – like something’s wrong? I go look, but she’s
just sitting on the bed. Nothing wrong that I can see. She’s been changing,
behaving strangely. Like: not running out as soon as the door opens. Nothing
worrying as such, just unusual for Ziva.
After Rose left, I started cleaning the litter boxes.
Yes, I have two. One in the bathroom with gravel – for the adults, and one in
the bedroom with sand for, well, for the whole lot when they’re shut in the
bedroom. So, as I’m cleaning the sandbox – Ziva climbs in and gives me some
dirty looks. Yeah, she USES the box as I’m busy cleaning it! I have no idea why
that was necessary, why she couldn’t use the other one! Bizarre!
Then I try feeding the Mip Mips again – they didn’t
eat much when I tried earlier. Lady Jane still insists on being spoon fed! But
now, the other Mip Mips have checked this out and have decided off the spoon
must taste better, so they all start climbing onto me! Two parrot-fashion on my
shoulder, two on my crossed legs – who needs a Christmas tree when you can BE a
LIVE decorated tree?
Then the five cats start playing pinball. Yes, I said
five. Ziva is now quite happily joining in the fun. I love to see her finally
playing – it’s like she’s thawing out. Maybe one of these days she’ll even
start to cuddle! I keep trying, but so far – she’ll endure it, but doesn’t like
it. Baby steps – it’s only been four months since she walked into my home!
They still play with the flower pot, and whenever I’m
in the kitchen they play with the drawers!
| This is how it starts - the drawer comes out (it's on rollers) then Mewthos falls off |
| And then they climb into the open drawer and while one explores the drawer Mewthos sets his sights on higher goals! |
Well, I’ll try this ‘early night’ thing again – the cats
are all played out, all napping. So, there’s my chance!
