End of an Era

I had a very, very, very bad night. Practically slept only three or four hours ... I kept tossing and turning, my head filled with work that I just couldn't let go ...

When I finally managed to ease towards real sleep ... you won't believe this: Mewthos piddled on me! Just hopped onto the bed, turned around and wet my leg! I was furious! For the first time ever, I spanked him! I shoved his nose into the puddle and slapped his rump until he managed to escape my grasp!

This was past midnight! Wide awake again, pulling duvet off the bed and find a clean one ... back to sleep ...

Mewled awake! How DARE he! I just pushed him off the bed ...

Well, I dragged myself out of bed, made coffee ... no cuddles this morning! I'm still angry!

Off to work ...

And then I saw the news: Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, has passed away ... so many memes on Facebook. No mention of it in the Jacaranda News. And no disrespect in any of the memes ...

Whether you love or hate the monarchy - as a person, Queen Elizabeth II has truly done her best to serve her country, her people. It's the end of an era ...

I wonder what Charles will be like? Will Harry be allowed to attend the funeral? Well - I'm not really too interested in the gossip. I saw some comments on Facebook that apparently Harry's wife made some comment about South Africa that many people chose to take offence at - their choice. I'm not even interested to find out what it's all about.

When re-watching Fringe recently, I noticed her name in the closing credits - and re-watched the episode to form an opinion of her as an actress. I'm afraid, she made very little impression. Stunningly beautiful. That's it. Her acting didn't impress me - no wonder I never noticed her before. Well, it was a small role, so ... no basis for an informed opinion.

What's left of the writing reads 'Opened by Her Royal Highness the Princess Elizabeth, March 3, 1947'. I took this photo 8 years ago in East London. It's in an area across the Buffalo river from the Buffalo River Yacht Club. Near the double-decker bridge. It took quite a bit of walking around to figure out how to reach this monument ... I guess by now, there's nothing left.

I've posted the photo in the comments of the East London Museum's post ... I wonder whether it will receive any comment or be removed?

As you can see, I don't have anything to say about the Queen, I'm afraid. I've not followed news about her, nor of her family. Diana was a different matter - she was such a bright star! I can't really say that I feel any need to judge. I'm not personally involved, so I'll never know the real story behind the news ... erm, gossip. And I no longer read gossip.

East London Museum 'loved' my comment and edited their comment, adding a reference to this photo - that she opened the Graving Dock, which was renamed in her honour.

Oh golly, funny meme popped up: "All of the actors from 'Friends' are now older than the youngest 'Golden Girl' was in that show's first season." Well, so am I! Ha ha! I guess that should make me feel old ...

For Pete's sake! Load shedding escalated to Stage 3. Continuously until Monday morning, thereafter Stage 2, continuously until Friday!

Remember how I said last weekend, how I now cope better with all the must do's? Well, load shedding tears that to shreds, I'm afraid.

I sometimes wonder how I would have coped as a mother. I'd have had chores galore every evening and every weekend. But I'm not a mother, and in some ways my attitude to chores is somewhat akin to a teenagers, I know!

Anyway. On the way home I stopped at the butchery. They didn't have any mince, so I took sausages and kebabs. Their sausages are delicious! And I always know they are fresher than anywhere else! All their meat is fresh. I also took another jar of tomato chutney.

At home, first thing I did was wash the floors - all Mewthos' puddles! He's been a very busy boy all week! And adding to each spot every single day. When that was done, I went outside.

I started by separating the tomato plants which had come up in the pot - there were five of them! I left the biggest one in the pot and planted the other four in the tomato bed. Then I cleared space again in the yellow rose bed and planted the gem squash seedlings which had come up in my tray. There is also a musk melon coming up there!

Then I started digging holes for the plum tree and the litchi tree. I don't have the strength to dig very deep, nor to make properly wide beds for either ... I'll have to keep digging and clearing until I have a full bed for each. I dug as deep as I could, then put on the sprinkler and tomorrow I'll go a little deeper ... keep repeating until I have the depth I want.

With load shedding until 18:30, I don't have hot water ... well, dumb ass me had left the geyser on the last two days. Every time I make that mistake load shedding happens! And if I do that during load shedding, it escalates! Every single time!

I wanted to watch King Charles III Address to the Nation live - after all, that's a once in a lifetime event ... but internet wouldn't play along. Nothing worked.

I shared dinner with mippies - they wouldn't eat their treat! None of them! So they only got the one! They also turned their nose up at my porterhouse steak. Well, now! What spoiled brats am I raising here?

I'm afraid I didn't give them a lot of time last night ... well, I have my off days as well!

With almost no sleep, I was very tired and went to sleep very early ....
