8 hours without power

Woke up to a cat concert outside my bedroom! Neighbour's cat howling at Smeagol, with the occasional Mew-howl joining in. My alarm hadn't even gone off - power was off ... well, got up anyway to disperse the musicians.

Power came on quarter past six, I made my coffee and off to work ... an hour and a half on the road! I don't know why - no accident, traffic lights had power ... at the end of Soutpan road, police is making sure that only cars actually turning right use the turn-right-only lane. Nice!

On Rosslyn road, traffic is backed up for several kilometers ...

Ordered mippies' fountain filters - as well as Whiskas (I don't have enough to last until the other order arrives. Not with Smeagol joining the munching club), and fruit juice. I should probably order flour as well ... but I'm thinking to making a trip to DisChem first. Going all eco-friendly and green is all very well and good - but it IS expensive!

Eskom has not made any announcement regarding load shedding ... today they just carried on in Stage 6. There's a notification on my EskomSePush app that Stage 5 starts at midnight tonight - but nothing from Eskom. Tomorrow we're off 8 hours again:

04:00 - 08:30 - 4 hours
12:00 - 14:30
20:00 - 22:30

Of course tonight we'll be off 20:00 - 00:30 - 4 hours!

Ah! Finally! An official announcement from Eskom! Stage 5 starts at midnight ... nothing more. Basically, that means indefinitely ...

Stage 5 on Wednesday is going to be really bad:

02:00 - 04:30
10:00 - 14:30 - 4 hours
18:00 - 20:30

No hot dinner, no bath!

Thursday

02:00 - 04:30
10:00 - 12:30
18:00 - 22:30 - 4 hours!

Again: No hot dinner, no bath! Let us hope they suspend load shedding soon! Not much hope of that, though ...

Six to eight is the worst time slot. Both morning and evening. Morning coffee is still bearable - I can either make it the night before, or use the gas cooker. But evening? Definitely no bath - unless I turn the geyser on in the morning. Which kind of defies the purpose of load shedding: reducing the energy consumption. Re-heating stew also means I have to ladle it into a pot that I can use on the gas cooker ... Or find something in the freezer that I can simply fry. Sheez, I'm really getting tired of this shit!

On the other hand, at least I'm not facing a winter with temperatures below zero (Celsius) and no electricity! Or, what electricity is available, is suddenly beyond my means! Like Germany! Compared to THEIR energy crisis - ours ranks no more than nuisance level!

Well, since I don't know whether I'll have internet at home tonight ... I guess I'd better publish now ...
