Sigh, life
may be good – but a full night’s sleep would make it even better! I don’t know
what it is with that cat. As I’m going to sleep she burrows under the duvet
until she’s by my feet – uh oh! My feet don’t exactly lie still throughout the
night – and kitty may be tempted to catch little moving piggie wiggies! So I’m
lying a bit uneasy, but eventually fall asleep. I wake up to a cat burrowing
her way around my feet and legs to I don’t know where. Curls up and sleeps. I
try the same. Wake up to a cat sitting up straight outside the covers meowing.
Call her, pet her sleepily and try to go back to sleep. Around four am. Cat
meowing insistently. Look at cat wondering what she wants now, when she climbs
onto the night stand, jumps onto the window sill, skids along it (nails
scratching along the painted sill trying to find a hold – urgh! sounds like
fingernails down a blackboard!) ends in a thud as the cat simply skids right
off! Wide awake now, thank you! I wait a bit, calling her and eventually she
jumps onto the bed with an air of ‘Thud? What thud? Cats don’t fall, we jump
gracefully, thank you very much!’ I look at my phone, the time is 03:44. If I
go back to sleep now, I’ll definitely oversleep – but it’s also too early to
get up. And not exactly warm either. So I try to stay awake – and fail. Next
wake up is nearly eight am! Open the front door to rid myself of this nuisance
and she happily goes off! Coffee. Sigh, better sms the manager that I’ll be
late. Second cup of coffee – no good driving while I’m still half asleep. Cat
comes back in. Goes through to the bedroom ... calls me! Tummy rub. Now! In for
a penny, in for the pound – I’m going to be very late anyway, might as well. As
I’m leaving, Silver sits on the box, I try to coax her outside but she just
stretches her neck to look at me with her head tilted to the side like she’s
saying ‘Off you go! I’m comfy here, thank you.’
As I walk
alongside the flower bed I see the second blossom of the blue flower has
opened! I must take some photos tonight, who knows how long they bloom and
whether any more are growing. My neighbour calls it my Wonder-Garden, because
we’re always wondering what this is, or what that could be. Or what’s coming up
next.
On the way
to work, just as I want to get onto the Highway, the road is blocked. Police
cars blocking the road so we have to detour, i.e. turn off. Ok, so I turn
towards Despatch and then opt to follow the signs to Uitenhage rather than go
through Despatch again. It’s interesting, I’m driving through some pretty farmland,
lots of plots and Aloes blooming left and right. No sign of any city or much
civilization, except the road itself. All the while the road signs continue to
Uitenhage ahead, Port Elizabeth back. And then I come across a road sign pointing Uitenhage ahead and Port Elizabeth ahead! Not sure how that works, I
can only guess it leads up to the highway. Anyway, I continue to follow the
signs to Uitenhage, then turn off to Uitenhage Industrial and soon I can see
the big sign of my workplace!
Lack of
sleep is catching up with me by lunch time already! At least I get to plod my
way through this muddle of documentation in peace and quiet – touch wood! No
childish tantrums so far today about how I must do this and that or how it’s my
job to that and the other. Hold thumbs! I’m not in the mood.
I also
managed to forget my USB at work, so I couldn’t post the blog on Thursday, but
will do so tonight. Back home I took my neighbour on a tour showing her all the
new flowers blooming in my garden.
