I did get
some sleep, but not enough! I meant to get some Vitamins and Toiletries today, but it’s raining – so I just did a quick run through Spar to
collect essentials for the week. Oh, and two tins Salmon cat food. She finished
the entire tin by morning! That cat eats better than I do lately! So I treated
myself to croissants with cottage cheese, capers and smoked salmon for
breakfast.
It’s too
cold and wet for the garden today, tomorrow as well, if the forecast is right.
But Monday will be lovely and sunny! Go figure!
So I’m
spending time in the kitchen this weekend. I’ll be making the pasta dish I’ve
been too exhausted to make during the week. Since there’s no meat involved,
nothing’s gone off, I hope – but I got more mushrooms, just in case. No need to
take chances. And I’ve got plenty of sour cream, for a lovely creamy dish!
Silver is
really a nuisance today. I hope she gives birth soon, because my nerves are
becoming a bit frayed at the edges. I’ve already snapped at her once. I’ve not
had a full night’s sleep all week and I’m feeling the lack! I think an
afternoon nap will be lovely! She keeps demanding attention, of course right
after she’s come back from a run outside – all wet and muddy! She keeps eating,
over and over back to the food bowl eating. Where on earth does she put all of
it? She’s had some egg, now I’ve emptied a pack of chicken in gravy cat food (I
got another three sachets this morning). Last night something in the bathroom
attracted her attention and she sat up on the chair like a Meerkat! Pity I didn’t
manage to snap a pic of that!
I think now
would be a good time to try and get some shuteye, I just worry that I won’t
bother to get up again today! Might just sleep right through till morning, the
way I’m feeling! Better close the door, just in case.
I must be
deranged from lack of sleep! If I don’t get to sleep through the night, what
deranged fantasy led me to believe I would be allowed to sleep during the day?
An hour! That’s how long Miss I’m-pregnant-and-I-want-lots-of-attention-NOW-if-you-please
permitted me to sleep! Sigh, I guess an hour is better than nothing. It’s too
wet for her to stay out for long, unless I get nasty and lock her out, I have
no chance of real sleep!
All my life
I evaded getting knocked up only to suffer through a blerry cat’s pregnancy! Life
has a twisted sense of humour! At least cats are not pregnant for long, seventy
days on the outside. She’s been here thirty-five days (five weeks) and was already
bulging when she arrived, indicating she was about four-five weeks pregnant. That
makes her nine to ten weeks, or about sixty-seventy days. So, very close, like
I didn’t know that already. If I wanted to know whether she’s THAT close, I could
take her temperature … yeah, I don’t think so, either! Her current behaviour
indicates no later than three days – and she’s been keeping that up for two
days already! Anxious and restless. Of course, I could just as well be wrong
and she could keep this up another week.
Dinner is
cooking and I think I may have found some peace and quiet. At last! One of my
wardrobe doors doesn’t close properly, I’ve been keeping the feather pillows in
the bottom there. I thought Silver had long since explored it – what with her
rushing into every wardrobe I open, but apparently she hadn’t. I just took her
there, picked her up (yes, I know you shouldn’t pick up pregnant cats. I hold
her under her ribcage) and placed her inside. I’d put an old frayed duvet cover
on top and some old towels to boot. Then petted her until she did her normal
barrel-roll (rub her belly and she starts rolling like a barrel over and over!)
then left her there. That was ten minutes ago – she’s still in there! It’s
dark, it’s warm, it’s soft and since the door doesn’t close anyway, there’s no
chance of accidentally shutting her in. I thought she’d have explored it long
ago! Apparently not, though – she must have been so restless since she was
still looking for a place to safely give birth? Well maybe she’ll get busy now!
For dinner,
there’ll be no pasta. I got the mushrooms, zucchini, butternut and Brussels sprouts
(love those!) into the frying pan, added water and there’s no room for anything
else. That’s the trouble about cooking for one: can’t really buy vegetables for
one – since a lot of them are only available in packets sized for two or more. I’ll
have to add the spinach, beans and carrots tomorrow – and hopefully some pasta!
