When I got home last night, the power was off! It had apparently gone off just after five ... dig out my modem, dig out the power bank, connect the two ... try to get online to find out what's going on!
Well, apparently a large area affected. I can't get a new reference number - the one I got in the morning hasn't been closed, yet. Even though a technician called to ensure power was restored after ten in the morning. I messaged, notified, did what I could ...
I fed the ferals - all three youngsters are waiting for me to feed them. Even Sybill's mommy now sits and waits for me. No sign of Smeagol, though. Poor bastard! His happiness lasted so few months!
Then I cleaned the litter boxes, under close supervision from Lady Sybill, ha ha! She then used one of the boxes, enthusiastically! When I had finished in the room, she went and sat by the litter box in her room - as if to make sure I don't forget about her box! Such a darling!
She is still being hissed and growled at by my mippies. Mini even fletched her teeth at me last night! I had to push her off the bed - if I'm not safe in my own bed, I'm sorry, but then YOU have to go. She came back later, just low growling ...
This morning I decided to take a chance and leave Sybill free to roam the house. She so much wants to be accepted! She even went to curl up near Mini for a while - not close, just near.
Her brother and her cousins are now also giving me the same look that melted me down to the point where I grabbed Sybill and brought her inside. Even though they still fear me - won't let me get too close. Well, time will tell ...
With no power, I flip flopped in about an inch of cold water ... I won't dignify that by calling it a bath. I had a bowl of roast and veg ... cold. I meant to fill bags and put them in the freezer ... but without power? Yeah, it's bad enough carrying a torch around in your home ... I just put a cover on the inside pot and put it in the fridge.
I didn't expect to be without power for this long! A lot of people reported their power coming on around half past seven ... not us, though. I messaged again, stating that our power is STILL off, and 'yes, I have checked my DB' ... no response. I went to bed.
I spend time playing with Lady Sybill in the evenings. She loves the dangly pink fish! Mini watched ... pawed at it a few times, when I dangled it over her head ... but ultimately left in disgust, with a growl and a hiss.
I managed to go to sleep ... mosquitoes were bothering me, though. And with my damaged hands, I can't really swat at them. I made the mistake of clapping ... once. Ouch! Left forefinger is still swollen, though the swelling is going down.
I meant to remove the plaster last night ... but with the whole power outage thing, didn't get around to it.
I woke up again after ten. Still no power, so I checked WhatsApp and messaged AGAIN that our power is STILL off.
I woke up when the alarm went off this morning. Snoozed it a few times ... got up somewhat late. It hasn't been a good night. Gave mippies their breakfast. Had coffee. Cold. But that's not really an issue for me - I quite like cold coffee. As long as it kicks, I don't worry about temperature!
Neighbours are in WhatsApp uproar about the power ... yet not one of them has a reference number! Sheez, guys! WTF is wrong with you?
Fed the ferals, filled their water, off to work.
At work, I sent the 'how to report power outage' to the neighbours, sent one neighbour the link to the online reporting - she requested it; and then messaged our councillor directly. Just to make sure he is aware that our power IS still off, that it's not the DB board, and that I couldn't get a new reference number. Asked him whether I should report again today. He acknowledged that we're still out, no, I don't need to report again, teams are investigating.
There's also a major outage in Pretoria North - there aren't enough teams to address everything, so they have to prioritise. The more reports, the higher the priority. Thank you, neighbours! Useless bunch! Grrr ...
Half past ten, power still off. Oh, and I also asked about the State of Disaster: yes, it's still active, and there's a court case. Well, that's something ...
Ten to three and our power is STILL off! They're still cutting trees. Sigh ...
Oh, whoopee! Petrol price is going down tomorrow! By a whole cent! It went up by 127 cents per liter only a month ago! Yeah, R1.27 Up and now R0.01 down. Party time! NOT!
That measly cent isn't worth putting off filling up the car by a day.
Just past half four and our power is on! Phew! Almost a whole day! Well, it's on now ... I won't have to flip flop in shallow waters tonight.
And I called the vet, they're open on Saturday. I want to take Lady Sybill, ask about her condition. What to look out for, when to isolate her, etc. And about Tabetha and her sister. What to look out for ...
Well, quarter to five. Time to publish ... load shedding from eight to ten again tonight.
