When I got home last night, I was puzzled by a few bird feathers on my bed. I checked under the duvet, but found no bird, nor any remains ... this morning, a Hoopoe was fluttering around, with mippies in happy pursuit! I managed to get hold of it - its head had blood on it, but otherwise it seemed fine, so I released it out the window ... it flew off gratefully!
I can only imagine that it crawled through the hole in the wall, where some previous owner or tenant had an aircon pipe. That hole had been 'blocked' with newspaper, which has gone missing a short while ago. I found scraps of it outside, so I guess some bird started pulling it out for a nest. I had better block that off again. Somehow.
The power went off some time after three this morning. I woke up to the UPS crying for power just before it died ... and the PC with it ... I couldn't sleep, so I got up for a bit.
With the very late night - it was past ten, when I finally got to bed - plus the middle-of-the-night wake up ... I overslept. Quite a bit. About an hour ...
Get out the gas bottle, boil the kettle, coffee!
I packed the smartphone and the WiFi, so I could stay in touch regarding the power outage. At work, I tried calling ... number unobtainable! Tried from the work's landline, same result!
I had made quite a few contacts last night, so I messaged our candidate for Ward Councilor - he immediately reported it and gave me a reference number; and he added me to the Electricity Group. He also gave me feedback, that the whole line was out and teams were already investigating.
I relayed all info to the neighbourhood group. Around nine, they let me know that the power was on!
And then a weird thing happened: Tshwane Electricity called me! They asked whether the power was back! Cool, eh?
Back at home ... I left my smartphone AND my WiFi router at work! Ha Ha, so: no internet.
I cleared more grass out of the green area in front. Showered. Dinner. Watched an episode or two while cuddling mippies ... sleep ...
