Lock-down Day 42

Mippies went berserk this morning! I have no idea why, today they suddenly decided that I must get up at twenty past five. I refused. They trampolined me. I turned over. Mini pushed things off the bed, I picked it up, pulled everything under the duvet and turned over. They jumped onto the keyboard, again and again, every time I had to get out of bed before Mewthos would move his fat arse off the keyboard! They lifted the lid of the flower fountain, I pushed it back and turned over again ... this went on until quarter to seven! I'm adamant that they don't go out in the dark.

I also finally learned WHY Mewthos isn't piddling in the boxes. While I was on the toilet this morning, he used the little litter box. The problem is that he is simply too big! As is his bladder. He 'dug a hole' and then ... splashed! Poor boy got his paws wet! So, why doesn't he use the big one? Because that's been used for solids during the night! I'm going to need another box, another big one.

The DA only updated their numbers after I went to sleep last night:
279 379 tested, 7 808 confirmed, 3 153 recovered, 153 deaths.

I had some worrying dreams this morning, which somehow linked together everything that is happening, in South Africa and in the world - and the plan was world-wide civil war. In this dream, our president's announcement that cigarettes would be sold under Level 4 was planned to incite the maximum amount of anger when that would be denied a few days later. For some reason, his very first statement also surfaced again in that dream, where his 'solution' to the empty tax coffers was to increase VAT. I saw a barrel full of holes, into which someone was trying to collect water - and to solve the problems the holes created, they turned up the water flow. And then the entire police force and army started marching through my head ... another piece of the puzzle falling into place. This was unlike most dreams, more like those times when I have a serious problem and my subconscious mind 'solves' the problem and presents me with the solution in the form of a dream ... I don't like what this dream represents, though. I woke up in a cold sweat ... that was before mippies started pestering me.

For some reason, they also wouldn't go out when I opened the door! They all just milled around, then followed me back inside! Huh? Maybe it's the cattle, which have been bellowing throughout the night, and are still calling! I wonder whether they have food and water? I mean, cattle don't normally moo continuously ... Or maybe it's because this is a new environment? I don't know much about beef before it's beef.

Mewthos is being his most typical nuisance! In and out, mewling like a siren without volume control ... underfoot ... I pick him up, again and again until he wriggles free ... I wonder if anyone would like to adopt him? Ha Ha Ha!

I'm having some trouble today processing this bizarre new reality. It was bad enough when we had a government regulating the opening times for shops, bottle stores and pubs. But at least everybody knew exactly what the law was. It wasn't left for individual policemen to interpret as they like! Many of which are trying their best - but too many enjoy this unlimited power over the entire country! And why, if the vast majority of law abiding citizens, like myself, are staying at home, can't eh police NOW finally track down and catch all those criminals still out there? Why aren't we hearing of arrests of murderers, rapists, syndicates? Why are we only hearing that criminals are let out of jails to avoid them contracting this virus - but more law-abiding citizens are being charged with arbitrary offenses. Businesses are shut down for 'non-compliance' with the current requirements - but police stations don't need to comply. I'm not allowed to buy cigarettes, but I'm allowed to grow marijuana in my garden, if I choose.

Remember at the beginning of lock-down? When I wrote that more people have died as a result of the lock-down than of COVID-19? I believe that is still the case - only, those numbers are no longer published. The Union Buildings are no longer free of the virus ... apparently they are now only taking measures. New rules are being written around the Level 4 lock-down ... which appears to indicate that there is no plan for Level 3. Freedom of speech, particularly of the press is also being undermined even further. As things stand right now, Level 4 is even stricter than Level 5 was - with the exception of some businesses opening. This does not bode well ...

I'm having a very hard time sticking to my smoking plan, again. I'm getting irritable with the mips - who just want attention. Well, lots and lots and lots of attention - too much - but still. And then I get a call that the delivery is at the gate ... quickly call to see if anyone is on site, as promised ... no, but they can deliver across the road ... call back, delivery guy promises to turn around and deliver. That'll be the litter. I spoke to my colleague and he's on board to let me know when everything has arrived, then I can go shopping Monday morning and collect from work afterwards.

Message from HR that they've received SOME of the claims from UIF, that they've hired someone from UIF to help and we'll receive what's available when its available. Well, that's better than nothing.

I've gone for a walk around the garden, collecting Cosmos and Marigold seeds again - with Mewthos jumping along like a grasshopper at my feet! I pick him up, he loves it, then wriggles free, I put him down ... repeat until I'm back inside. That one Cosmos plant though, I'm going to have to wait until it is completely dried - I cannot even reach the top flowers, even when I'm on tiptoe reaching as far as I can! And I'm not a short person - that plant is at least 2 meter tall!

Just found a fun news item: apparently parliamentary zoom meetings are interrupted by porn! Ha Ha! They don't even have the ability to meet without intrusion, yet they consider themselves competent to tell the whole country what to do? Seriously ...

Apparently it's now legal to produce and export cigarettes ... and another lawyer writes to the president ... asking questions to which we all want answers, just asking to stop treating us like children. Give us some rationale, some reasons ...

Anyway, I've just washed most of the dishes, and also finally cleaned the fridge. I packed the current refuse into one of the Whiskas ziplock bags, placed in the trash, ready to go on Monday.

Rumours abound that there's another address from our president tonight ... I've seen nothing on any official site, yet. There's even some optimism that he'll announce that cigarettes may be sold .. well, last time he did that, it turned out to be fake news. Only, HE can get away with it ... Anyway ... I'm keeping an eye on the official sites, just in case.

Here's what you can be fined for, and an attorney apparently contacted the presidential hotline and were advised the president will address the nation at seven tonight ... still nothing on the presidency.

I had a tin of chicken noodle soup, but I'm still hungry - though I still don't feel like cooking. I'm now going to boil some pasta and veggies for dinner. I just dumped all sorts into the pot: the last frozen diced carrots, peas, lentils, one haddock ... just gonna let it simmer for a while ...

Oh, and lots of people are asking about smoking tea ... I googled and I don't HAVE to mix some of my precious tobacco with the tea leaves. I can just roll and smoke ... since I have such a lot of tea - some of which I still inherited from my mum - I think I'm going to give that a try tomorrow! I have nothing to loose, since I have a hoard of tea leaves ...

Oh, lovely! I received payment! Not much, but it'll cover my rent! I'm really surprised!

We had a long wait for Lady Jane tonight. I eventually gave up and started feeding the 3 who were home ... after the 1st sachet, I went to see if I can't find Janey - and she came running inside! Good girl! They're all fed now, and so am I. I enjoyed a good meal - just added some lemon juice, no other spices. Not even salt - it was tasty enough without anything else.

More and more smokers are turning to tea leaves ... I'm getting great tips! I also got mail from the cat food, that they only dispatched the sachets and tins. The rest would follow tomorrow or ... Saturday? Well, that won't work! Ah, well ... now I can only sit back and wait ...

I think tomorrow, I'm going to make myself some milk shakes again. When I took out the frozen veggies, I saw just how much I still have - and I really miss my shakes! I think the vitamins would do me good as well, lift my spirits as well. I've had a mild headache all day long, just couldn't shake it. Possibly withdrawal? I thought dinner would clear it - but it hasn't. Yes, it's winter and frozen shakes may not be the best idea at the moment - but since I don't get up before sunrise, I miss the really cold time of day. Maybe in the afternoon, when it's almost warm anyway.

Hmmm ... maybe after a hot bath? Tonight still? Done! Ha Ha! Raspberry smoothie - really hitting the spot! Now that was a really good idea! I had the bath, lovely and hot, then more raspberry shake! Now mippies are demanding attention again ... time for bed.
