Lock-down Day 41

I slept really late today, Mewthos had run out of patience and started mewling me awake at the top of his lungs! It was nearly eight! Ha Ha, poor mippies! So patient, though.

I let them out, expecting some quiet time to write & play online ... Ha Ha Ha! I haven't learned a thing, have I? Mini didn't even go outside, but just stuck to me like glue. Mewthos came mewling back within minutes, carrying on and on to get attention (which I continuously gave!) then twirling his favourite twirly again. He is FINALLY quiet! Ziva came in mipping for ear scratches ... Janey came in for cuddles ... and now it's half past eleven! THAT is where my mornings go! Every day!

I was not surprised to see in the news that the case against the ban on tobacco sales has now been dropped ... angry, but not surprised. After all, it's THEIR cigarettes as well, which are being sold now illegally. So, although they don't get any of the inflated prices, they have already sold those cigarettes. Never mind that they were then stolen from those who legally purchased them for sale ...

I did also stumble across an interesting article, giving Desmond Tutu's view of the current situation. It's a few days old, but still.

I'm back to my 90-minute interval smoking ...

On a whim, I called the colleague again. Turns out he and another guy are working practically full time already ... I arranged that they'd accept deliveries for me, I just need to give them a heads-up WHEN to expect delivery. So, I'm going to order cat food and litter right now ...

Right. Orders for cat food and litter are placed. Delivery should still happen this week - which, of course, also means that I must make a plan to drive to work to collect them. Probably best to plan that for Friday afternoon ... and find out from my colleagues what their schedule is ... and, of course, I'll have to shut mippies in on Friday, as soon as they're inside for their Siesta.

Now, I'm going to have a look on the grocery website to see if I can order. If not, I'll make a turn past Ninapark Superspar on Friday as well. And, of course, I'll be able to take my refuse to work!

Sigh ... this is happening a little too fast for my liking. After weeks and weeks of 'stuck at home' with no end in sight ... Well, for one thing, I've treated myself to a cup of that extra special coffee I got! I now have 3 cups left. Awesome! Pity I can't order more - I had been considering getting stock of those, but with the current financial dilemma, it's a luxury I can't indulge in.

I opened the grocery website and EVERYTHING is currently out of stock. All flour, for starters, so ... no use even trying to place an order. I'm going to have to get to a store for flour and other essential baking ingredients. Maybe I can order soap & dishwashing liquid there, though ...

In the news, the biggest problem with the Level system of lockdown is finally coming out: NOBODY knows EXACTLY what is legal and what isn't. Not even the police & army, who are expected to enforce the rules - they are left to decide each for themselves what they consider legal and what illegal. Plus, of course, the illogical violation of basic constitutional rights is being questioned. And the Minister of Health is finally also stating that the prolonged lockdown is no longer based on any health matter. The virus WILL sweep through the country. Many people will die ... I may be one of those. And here some excerpts from yesterdays Coronacast.

I'm trying to work up the energy to bake. Or start spring cleaning the kitchen. Or just do ANYTHING productive. It's just past 2 ... I should also take something out of the freezer for dinner. I'm not sure what's holding me back ... it's a little like that bout of agoraphobia I had when I lived in East London. The dilemma this time, though, is not so much about being productive, but about using up essential products ...

Oh, and Leon and his wife both believe that their worker has quit smoking! Ha Ha! I didn't disillusion them! On a more serious note, Leon told me today that someone tried to break into his store last night. That's here, on the property. They managed to cut 2 wires when they were interrupted - he's guessing that was when he let the dogs outside for a quick walk.

I went into the kitchen, intent on baking a batch of muffins ... but I really don't feel up to it. So I've locked the front gate and decided that I'll take a nap, instead. Sigh.

Nap didn't work out too well, couldn't sleep. So I got up again and this time I had the energy to bake my muffins. They're in the oven now. I'm not sure why I always have this 'don't wanna' to overcome to bake muffins, though - it only takes a few minutes! Oh, yeah, because it takes half an hour to wash all the dishes I use, and every time my stock is reduced. This time, the cake flour & baking powder is completely finished, and so is my Nesquick. Now I'm using hot chocolate powder. And because I used half cake flour and half self-raising, with very little baking powder, they're not rising too well - but that doesn't affect the taste, only the look.

Stumbled across an article giving all the UIF details, including a list of companies which have received payment. I checked, my employer received payment on 1st May. I wonder whether any of that will trickle through to me ... Also an easy to understand list of what needs to be in place for companies to open up. All of which seems easy for us to do, so ... should I hold my breath?

Apparently our neighbours have moved out, and new people are moving in. A herd of cattle has definitely moved in ... a very loud herd of cattle! Keeping my mippies away from that area :)

Mippies came in early and without any trouble. I'm still rationing them to 2 sachets a night - they're still not complaining. Oh, Mewthos tries to push his luck! I pick him up as often as I can catch him, and he's happy!

For myself, I had taken out another pair of Käsegriller. I gave Mewthos and Mini some chicken hearts - none of them like sausages. Lucky for me! The muffins are delicious, even though I didn't add any chocolate chips.

Oh, and our government has 'hit back hard' against everyone questioning the current regulations, making it very clear that the law is whatever they say it is. And even though the lock down no longer has a purpose ... no change is on the cards.

I probably shouldn't say that all hope went up in smoke :) Smoking is a touchy subject.

I had been thinking to combine collecting the deliveries with shopping, but that's not a good plan, because the queues will be extreme if I go in the afternoon. Plus, I'm getting my milk Friday morning, then going again to get the deliveries? Maybe I should plan both for Monday? Unless both deliveries arrive tomorrow, I'd say Monday would be the best option. I can leave very early and first go shopping; then go to work, collect my deliveries, drop off my refuse and go back home. I'll need a shopping list, though - with prices, as I saw a photo where they charged almost R60 for a single head of cabbage! Sigh, I just wish I could buy cigarettes ... Well, I'll call my colleague and hear what's what.

Time for me to call it a day. Mippies are all snuggling together on the armchair - except for Mini, of course. She isn't exactly part of the family - still. Which is probably why she's under my feet so much, but I don't mind! She gets lots of cuddles from me!
