Wednesday & Thursday

At home, it is evident that I have a kitten. My last lace curtain is proof of the current climbing attempts - there is now a gaping hole right in the center! Ah well.

When I scooped some mousse for the mini, she just sat there sniffing it and looking at it - I think its because it came straight from the fridge, and was too cold for her to eat. So I gave her a sachet as well, which she ate hungrily.

I showered before going outside, and when I did go out - no mips in sight! Eventually Mewthos came mewling, but the ladies? I had to wait a long time before they showed up! And when it was time to go inside - Janey refused! She needed reassurance, I suppose, as she played 'catch me' for quite some time. I eventually had to give up, as the others hadn't been fed, yet, and when I came back outside Janey sat quite mopey outside the gate. I had quite a time coaxing her in - I think she knows it is 'naughty', but I have no idea why she behaves as if she might be punished? I've been upset, sure. Yelled, sure. But never hit her for her antics! Especially not since I figured out that it was her way of getting reassurance ... and not a deliberate behaviour.

Oh, and I very nearly crushed mini's paw last night! Gosh, it gave me quite a turn - I was walking into the bedroom when she dashed under my feet! Fortunately I felt it before putting my foot all the way down - that little one is just so fast! I try to take my safety boots off, first thing when I get home and put them on last thing before I leave for work - and still she nearly, nearly ...

Her behaviour is more and more like Mynx. Like Mynx, she also likes to sleep in my arms, under the duvet with me. None of the others do, Mewthos will come sometimes, but only for a while. Never to sleep there for the night.

And she is playful! Her favourite toy is the mouse with the bell on the elastic! I spent at least an hour playing with her on the bed last night. Janey came, intrigued, made a few swats at it, but stayed away from mini. Mewthos also came to investigate, but stalked off when he saw who was playing. The mini had the time of her life, jumping, running, and rolling with the mouse in her paws! I, too, thoroughly enjoyed myself!

I had a laugh at Mewthos this morning. I filled mini's bowl and he came to investigate - before I could intervene, mini growled and Mewthos retreated! He took a stroll on the rim of the bath for my benefit, as that puts him at a height where I can comfortably scratch his ears.

I slept well and woke up an hour before the alarm went off. Got up to feed mini, then snuggled back under the duvet. Mini soon came to join me. When the alarm went off, she came out to investigate and snoozed it for me.

At work, the phrase 'Mowing the lawn while your house is on fire' pretty much sums things up. We waste a lot of time on petty matters while the jobs that really need to get done, you know, the stuff that brings in money? Well, those can wait ...

The other phrase that applies here is "Never time to do it right" The second part of that saying is 'always time to do it over' - but, if you don't have time to do it right, where the heck do you get time to do things over? Well, here, they don't. They just leave it ... Unless there is an external motivation to 'do it over'. Like, when the client returns our goods - THEN we'll re-work it.

It's very frustrating for me, as I'm trying to do things right - but the entire infrastructure is firmly fixated on 'that'll do' and 'good enough'. So I end up having to go the extra mile to prevent the operations outside my control from affecting my work. The complete lack of consistency doesn't exactly help, either.

Rant over.

Oops, one more thing: what has me absolutely stumped is just how we've been operating for three years, without even the basics in place. Like counting. How hard is it to count to three? Just how is it okay to get that wrong? For three years?

Okay, now I'm done. Well, not really - I could go on and on - but what's the point? Nobody here cares, so why should I bore you with my frustrations?

Still no news on my PC, I'm afraid. That's about all to be said ... I'll write tonight's story tomorrow morning!
