Lock-down Day 194

I slept quite well, but what woke me up was Ziva trying to open the window! Since I can't close it properly, that's got me worried. I decided to get up and open the front door for them - give them a bit of fresh air. I must say, my bedroom is getting rather stuffy.

So, since I was up at quarter to five, I spent time with mippies. Mewthos needed lots of cuddling again, pick him up, put him down, pick him up, put him down. Some people pay a lot of money for that kind of morning gym exercise Ha Ha Ha!

I left around six for work, but when I was in the garage, I realised that I had forgotten my coffee in the kitchen! Fortunately, I can use the garage door to the lounge go into the house and get it, no need to go all the way around again. It's just that I can't unlock or lock the garage door from inside.

It rained somewhat on the way to work, but nothing near as bad as last night. Traffic was flowing, though busy.

Well, all shopping orders are placed, deliveries should arrive tomorrow :D I had better remember to put the cooler box back into the boot, for the meat I ordered!

Mewthos was eyeing the top of the bookshelves, where Janey and Ziva enjoy to stroll and nap ... he knows if he gets up, he can't get down, yet he wants to. I think I should make a plan to build them some structure they can walk or take short jumps to get up on, so Mewthos can also enjoy lounging around the top, looking down on everything!

The kitchen counter is also quite high, so I've put one of the cubes next to it, to help Mewthos jump up and down without hurting his leg. I have been considering indulging in one of those cat furniture items, even though they are so expensive ... and I'm just wondering how long they will stand up to Mewthos' enthusiasm?

Someone lifted the lid of the flower fountain again - I can't tell whether it was Mini or Janey. They both seem to have some objection to it ... maybe I should indulge in another fountain?

Okay. Last night, I ordered another litter box - same size as the big one I've already got. Now I've decided on a 5 Liter drinking fountain, with cleaning kit and spare filters. It's the one I had checked out before the lock-down. I've compared what's on the market, available and affordable and where it's the cheapest and made my decision. I'll place the order tonight.

And then I really looked around for cat furniture, cat trees, scratching posts - funny how three different descriptions bring up the same thing, but three ranges of options! So I looked around really good, searched for reviews & descriptions and finally decided on two items: one a small one, to help Mewthos onto the food counter and one a tall scratching post. Expensive ... well, a lot of money, anyway. What I liked about this one in particular is that there are four beds or spots for cats to lie on - okay, at four different heights. One for each mip, he he - though I'm sure they'll fight over who gets the top spot. Then, it has one very tall pillar, covered in sisal, for them to really get their back into scratching their claws. As good as the one I built them - which desperately needs re-roping. And I'm not sure when I'll get time to do that ... Also, it weighs over 12 kg, which means a) a surcharge for delivery, but - most importantly - b) it's sturdy! So even Mewthos shouldn't topple it. It fits into a corner, and I'm thinking of placing it in my bedroom, next to the chest of drawers - to stop them from using my PC as a launch pad to get on top of the chest of drawers!

Actually, it has five places for cats to nap - one is inside the little box at the bottom. And two of the pillars are quite tall, so they have two options to stretch & scratch, which is good for their muscles and their claws. If I'm lucky, it might even be delivered before the weekend - I think mippies will love it! The fact that it's currently on special is a nice bonus.

I'm also thinking of building a catio outside my bedroom window. A type of cage, where mippies can go outside the window to get fresh air and sit and watch the garden. I don't want one to hang from the window - but rather have it stand on the ground. Like a shelved cage. I can stick the carpet tiles inside for them to claw and snuggle on. But that's a future project.

My mind is with my mippies, at home. I'm somewhat worried about them opening the bedroom window. I caught Ziva climbing up on the burglar bars ... I can't properly close that window. The best I could do was to tighten the screw and wedge the handle against the burglar bars - but if a mip pushes that handle down? And then pushes against the window - could they open it? I've asked a colleague for some wire, I'll try to tighten that around the handle and the sliding stay.

I'll be more relaxed if I know they really can't escape ... I already keep the third bedroom closed, because there's a broken window pane - albeit only a small, high up one. But if a mip headbutts it, the pane could break out and mippie could get out ... and hurt herself in the process. Same with the wash room, which has a broken window and broken window pane. But I can't shut them out of my bedroom as well! Even though they are using my PC as a launch pad to jump onto my chest of drawers! Little horrors!

I've also been reading about cat behaviour again, trying to eliminate the cause for the puddles. I found none yesterday, but they normally start on Wednesdays ... still hoping none will appear, but I'd like to do my part as well. One possible reason could be that I don't have enough litter boxes. Ideally, one should have one litter box per cat, plus one extra ... so, I should have five. Ideally! Since they are indoors all day and all night. I should also get back into the habit of cleaning them every morning - with all the stress and anxiety lately, I've slacked somewhat. I also want to put the grass carpet back under the litter boxes for them. I think they liked it? I can't remember why I removed it ... I think because it became too difficult to clean? Well, that's no longer the case.

The drive home took less time than yesterday. Apart from the fact that it wasn't raining cats and dogs tonight, there also seemed to be less traffic. I left around the same time as yesterday. Still that one stretch is really busy. There's a very short piece of 2 lanes, which become one lane - and loads of drivers don't want to let anyone in. Hence the deadlock.

It's now five to eight, and this is the first time I'm sitting down! I've been busy the entire time, since I got home. I put the feather duvet into the washing machine, swept the mippie room - and found a puddle (sigh) - then put the grass carpet down under the litter boxes, which I cleaned. I cooked dinner, I treated, cuddled, scratched and played with mippies and just now managed to place the orders I had decided on today! Now I'm going to spend an hour watching an episode of Angel, while I brush, cuddle, scratch, tummy tickle and generally tend to my mippies ... who are already mipping and mewling impatiently. Not that they have reason, as I've been tending to them throughout the evening. Making time to pick up and cuddle, lie down with and cuddle, catch and cuddle, reach up and ear-scratch each of them as they needed attention. Now, I'm quite knackered. I've hung up the duvet, packed my lunch ... time to relax.
