I did get up fairly early and let mippies out before it was fully daylight. They rushed off as if my home is a horrid cage! They always do - it's nothing new! Except for Mini - she likes to stick around in the mornings and only goes out later!
I had about an hour's peace and quiet and then mippies came rushing in. Ziva followed by Mini and then I could hear Mewthos mewling from afar, running home as well. As soon as he was inside, I shut the door and went to get my milk.
The farmers son tells me he could now buy an airline ticket - at three times the normal price! Plus: if the flight is cancelled - no money back! Seriously, this is ridiculous! I told him that I think, if he ever gets home, his wife will never allow him to visit South Africa again! Ha Ha! It's really, really unbelievable.
Well, I arranged for the different schedule next week and went back home. I've done the laundry - bit of a hiccup there, as I'm using the same tub to carry the laundry, that I use to soak the tobacco. Fortunately there is no tobacco soaking now.
I took all my recyclables out, so the bags are empty again. And I placed my 2 orders - cat food, making sure I get only what I can afford; and then I placed an order for more leaves.
Sheez, they really are making a killing! First, now that the website is up, they've closed the Facebook group. Oh, until today, when they advertise yet another item. Oh, nobody can post, but people can at least comment on posts. As much as I appreciate the product, I can't say I'm very impressed with the attitude ... the page is filled with people moaning about people moaning or laughing at people who ask a simple question. I placed an order. Their site is covered in promotional items - at big-brand prices. Well, they have to sort of 'hide' their main product. I decided to order a recipe book, though - that, at least, was relatively cheap. Then I saw that they no longer offer the 2kg product - only 1kg. Okay, so I ordered 2 of them - it's the maximum they allow. When I checked out, I saw that the courier cost had more than doubled! Yikes - I'd be paying more for the courier than the product! Changed the quantity back to 1x 1kg and courier costs are normal again. Seriously, not impressed! And on the Facebook group member literally lash out at anyone asking questions! Going on and on about how we should be grateful for this massive favour they are doing for us! How dare we ask 'I've been waiting 2 weeks, and have received no reply to any inquiry, could someone please help?' Anyway, I've ordered and should receive delivery in 5-10 days.
And now I'm trying to roll myself cigarettes! Man, what a mission! I'm just not getting it right! I've tried a couple of different ways - just no luck! Too loose, too tight, too thin, too thick ... blerry whatever. I've tried hand-rolling, too - which just gives me a cramp. At least the tobacco seems to finally be right! It shouldn't crumble - too dry - and when you scrunch it in a ball, it should spring back, if it doesn't it's too wet. Sigh. It's about as tricky as baking bread by hand ... getting the tobacco just right for cigarettes. And I'm no good at either! Of course the worst time to learn a tricky new skill is when you are rushed! Which I am! Poor mippies are learning a lot of strange new words today!
Having smoked my last cigarette is really putting the pressure on, eh? Well, I managed to make ONE smokeable cigarette! It's not perfect, it keeps going out after a few puffs, but I do have spare lighters - just in case!
I've now given up on rolling cigarettes - I'm just no good at it! I've even tried using a sushi mat, in desperation! So, I've turned the process around and I'm making empty tubes. I just roll them around a paintbrush. An arty one, not a handyman one. Then I add a filter - roll a strip of cardboard, fit that into the tube and then squish some cotton wool into that ring of cardboard. Last, I stuff tobacco into that tube - using a toothpick and the paintbrush to stomp it in. Slow process, very slow - but at least it seems to work! I managed to get two in a row that can be smoked. Okay, so I packed one of them a little too tight. But it's progress.
I've made myself a couple of cigarettes, but I think I should stick to making one then smoke it before I make the next one ... so I can figure out what works best. What a mission, eh? Well, in the short term, it's quite frustrating. But in the long term, it's going to make a big difference! I want to see if I can buy a little roller next week - I don't see why selling those should be illegal? It's not a tobacco product, after all! But I remember asking for papers at Spar and being told 'No!'. I'm not sure whether that was at Level 4 or Level 3, though.
Well, I've got stuff done today. Watch this space to see what stuff gets done tomorrow!
