I hear we've now entered yet another Version of Level 3 Lock-down ... what the freak is wrong with our government? Do they have even one working brain cell among the lot of them? They just don't seem to grasp that this country can not afford to stay locked down! All the data, the facts, the images - everything speaking louder than words, screaming to end the lock-down NOW ... and they just play games, and borrow more money ... without even putting anything in place to prevent that money being stolen! History will look at the ANC Government as the single most detrimental factor this country has ever experienced - far, far worse than Apartheid ever was!
How are they still in power? Because in their 'campaign speeches' they instill fear and hatred against whites - their whole campaign is based on 'If you don't vote ANC, you'll get Apartheid back'! After 26 years of ANC Rule - under the false label of Democracy - not many voters actually remember Apartheid. Anyone younger than 35 cannot honestly say they remember anything! Because change started happening long before the first democratic elections - what is remembered of the 5 years leading up to that, is the end of Apartheid. 26+5=31. And anyone trying to tell me that they remember 'what their country was like' at age 4 or younger, is lying! One remembers incidents of one's own life, nothing wider. So you have the majority of the population aged below 40 believing whatever they are told ... and fearing that these horror stories will come true - if they don't vote ANC.
A government that rules on fear - and after 26 years still has absolutely NOTHING to show for themselves ... can only stay in power by unnatural means: either fear or manipulation. They are working on both. Our president continues to instill fear - using the Afrikaans word for farmers as a threat: "If you don't vote ANC, the 'boer' will come back!" meaning, 'Apartheid' will come back! And he sees nothing wrong with saying such a thing! And secondly, they are abusing the pandemic to stage a coup! They are planning to 'postpone' the next elections! They do not want citizens to have a voice - they have already taken full control of the courts, taking away any opportunity to have a voice ... silencing an entire country into submission!
It's just so frustrating and demoralising. Every day we stay locked down ... speeds us closer to the point of no return! It will already take decades to recover - we just can not afford to continue going down, we absolutely must start recovery!
If a simple woman-in-the-street can understand this - how can people with supposedly higher education not comprehend?
Anyway ... back to my little corner. Mewthos was terribly restless last night. He picked fights with Ziva, then with Janey ... it's not like him to bully or fight? I wonder if something is wrong? Only ... he's eating just fine! But he was definitely out of sorts last night ... and it's been building up. The night before he was also somewhat iffy.
I've just come up with another improvement on my cigarette making. I ran out of prepared tubes now - but I do have some paper, the kind for self-rolling. No filter, though. So I folded an ordinary white paper, just a filter-width. Cut enough for one filter, rolled it and fitted it together, like a loop, tucking one end under the other = no glue. Then I hung that 'ring' around my pen, rolled the paper around it = my tube. Then took some tissue paper to serve as a filter and stuffed it into the 'paper ring' and then stuffed my 'tube' as usual! Since the paper I was able to get is 'king size' I simply twirled the end to close the tube - and THAT is really the improvement! The reason I don't pre-stuff my tubes, but take empty tubes and tobacco to work is, because the tobacco falls out at the end. And the receipt paper doesn't 'twirl' nicely. So, maybe this weekend I can go a step further and prepare whole cigarettes for the week!
All this DIY has had me laughing at myself a few times already. Remember a long time ago, when I still bought everything ready-made? Bread, chocolates, cigarettes? And THEN I complained about the time my weekend chores took? And now? I've added heaps more chores - and the one's I used to complain about, I now do 'just by the way', almost like running them in the background! I have to confess, though, that the floors are not looking too good and I'm completely neglecting the garden. So, in a way, I've given up gardening for making my own bread, chocolate treats and cigarettes.
Back at home, I'm trying my method with actual cotton wool - not working. Using standard paper together with the extra thin cigarette paper is just not working as a filter. So, next, I went back to my heavy paper, yet I'm still trying to use the wafer thin cigarette paper, instead of the receipt papers I've been using thus far.
There is such a lot to learn! I mean, it's a whole process from leaf to cigarette and I've got to learn the whole lot! Without the equipment that makes it quick and professional, too! Well, with this last attempt, rolling cigarettes is definitely off the table! The receipt paper at least is free - but the cigarette paper is, after all, specifically for cigarettes. Theoretically, they are gummed, but I think they are old, because the gum isn't working - so I'm using the same glue I used on the receipt tubes.
At least I can take smoke breaks while I think about the next attempt! I meant to make myself fried potatoes for dinner, Bratkartoffeln, but to be perfectly frank, I'm too tired to do anything! I'm washing a batch of leaves - still only washing, drying and cutting them, no flavouring, yet. All things considered, though, I've come a long way already! I know how fine the tobacco needs to be, so I don't get embers falling off while I smoke. I know how to pack the tobacco just right - not too tight and not too lose, ditto filters. Okay, so I still get it wrong at times - but I immediately know what's wrong; and I know how to fix it, too! Cool, eh?
Washing leaves twice, leaves them still too strong for me, so this next batch, I'm washing four times! It's most probably because I don't use a lot of water. I'm reading about some people filling the whole bath for a batch ... whereas I'm using just one small bowl ...
Anyway ... big leaves are spread over the drying stand. Mippies all came home of their own accord ready for their treat! Very early! And then Mewthos went into hyper-attention mode! I've had to play catch with him, over and over, then I brushed him, pulled him out of boxes and bins, carried him back in my arms, cuddling him until he wriggled free ... then starting the whole thing over again! Sigh!
I'm now just about ready to strangle Mewthos into silence ... so ... bed ... right? Right!
