Mippies insisted I wake no later than 5:30! I tried turning over, but they just bounced over me, snatched my phone, lifted the lid of the flower fountain ... Mewthos stared at me from atop the armchair, when I opened my eyes, he jumped! Onto me! I held out until it was light, then let them out ...
Mini never stays away for long, she's right back here, under my feet, as always. Picking her up and cuddling her a lot!
Interesting news today. Well, interesting in a crooked way. Remember how the last time the numbers updated was on 6th April? Monday? I did still check them before I went to bed last night - no change. This morning, we have an update: 63776 tests conducted, 1845 positive cases identified, 45 Recoveries, 18 deaths. The report is dated 8th April. The news? Announced 5 more deaths in one day! Actually they say 'within the past 24 hours' ... I wonder why?
Here screen-prints from the sacoronavirus website:
And here one of the many news articles, all claiming the increase between the 2 reports being 'in the last 24 hours':
As of Wednesday, South Africa now has 1,845 confirmed coronavirus, or SARS-CoV-2, infections, with 18 people who have died from the virus.
The increase of 96 infections is the largest single-day jump in cases in over a week.
I've decided to try an pull my socks up today. I'll behave as I would on any Saturday. Well, apart from listening to the news, that is.
Ha Ha, that didn't work out too well, either! Part of my 'back to normal' effort involved my logging in to my game again. It took quite a while catching up with everything, then I started chatting, then saw some news that I should share with the fellowship ... and then it was noon!
I had decided yesterday that I'd steam the potatoes for today's lunch - yummy! It's been a while since I've had potatoes! Then I saw a notice that there'd be an announcement from our president - the notice came from a reliable source, so I tried to find out where I could maybe stream the announcement ... turned out that was fake news! The source was not aware of that, as she had received the info from her local radio station ... took me quite some time to find the facts!
The truth is, that our president is still gathering data on which to base his decision. Both from the health sector as well as the financial & business sector. Our Minister of Health is still convinced the worst is still to come. I fear he may be right. The numbers are still rising, albeit slowly. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst ...
Some fun news: I harvested my first peanuts! Turns out they're not quite ready, yet, though. I've left the 2nd plant still in the bed, and those I've harvested on the counter to dry out some more.
I was going to do the dishes, but first, I'll want another batch of muffins. I'm still experimenting with the mixture. This time, I used sunflower oil instead of butter. They say you should use less oil when you substitute for butter, about 1 : 3/4. I used 1:2 ha ha! I also added heaped teaspoons of baking powder.
I was in a bit of a rush and forgot to mix the dry ingredients before adding the liquids. Then, after I spooned it into the muffin tray, when I tasted the dough, I realised that I had forgotten to add sugar! Ai, ai, ai! Seriously, I should NOT rush! At work I've put up signs saying "Just quickly ... takes too long to fix!" and "If you don't have time to do it right, where do you find the time to do it over?" I should heed my own advice, eh? Anyway, I quickly googled, and then decided to add baking chocolate. I simply squished 2 pieces of baking chocolate into each muffin. And topped each muffin with some vermicelli. Let's hope that works! The dough tasted salty, though ... strange ... Well, let's see.
I took them out of the oven - hopefully not too early - and then went outside to get my mippies inside. Tonight, Janey was the truant! I was beginning to worry, but she showed up eventually. Mini decided to first play an extended game of 'catch' before coming inside. I was walking after her through half the garden, then under the car (no, I didn't follow!), then tried to 'hide' in the flower patch among the flowers! As she's black, she's difficult to see - but not invisible. Then, as I bent to grab her, she ran off again ... to her favourite spot, next to the car, where she finally decided to let me pick her up! Ai, ai, ai - no wonder she and Janey don't get along so well - they are too much alike! Remember when Janey had me running all over the garden, then into Rose's garden, then back into my garden to get her to come inside? Yeah, now I've got another one going through that phase, ha ha!
Well, our president will be addressing the nation tonight at 20:00. I've never been so eager to hear what any president will say ... I suppose, that's because this address will affect me personally. Directly, and immediately.
I've had a fun conversation with my landlord. Yeah, those happen, too! He asked where I wash my dishes now, so I told him 'in the kitchen'. I knew right away that he wanted to know, why there's no water in his barrel outside, but strung him along for at least a full minute - answering honestly, just the question, not offering information, ha ha! I've forgotten the verbatim exchange, or I'd share it - it was quite funny. Eventually I put him out of his misery and told him that I hadn't washed any dishes today!
I've noticed that they are far less boisterous lately, no loud music, no loud 'discussions' ... I was beginning to wonder when I realised: No alcohol! Ha Ha Ha!
Lock-down is extended by another 2 weeks until 30th April. I'm not going to say anymore tonight ...
