A good night, no power failure - just some very strange dreams this morning. Not surprising, as I'm currently watching The Twilight Zone.
Today is Tuesday, I'm so excited, I get to go out to get milk today! Uhm, no ... that's not how I feel. I still feel having to leave home as something unpleasant. Well, mippies are out, so I'll wait until they are coming back for their day-long Siesta.
Around nine they started coming inside, so I shut the 3 who had come inside, then went outside and lured Mewthos into my arms, so I could carry him inside, as well.
On the way, I saw a car turning into our dirt road, so I stopped in our drive-way to let it pass. The driver motioned me that I could go, and we actually stopped alongside, rolled down our windows for a chat. She works at the vet down the road, which makes her an essential worker. I asked and she confirmed that they do have cat food - so I can go there and buy some tomorrow. She also told me how hard it is for her to be away from home - she lives in Limpopo - and that she misses her husband, who is at home. She's considering going home - even though it would mean no income, and that she couldn't come back. She said she'd rather be broke than home-sick.
No matter whether we're essential or at home - it's not easy for either of us. It's hard, but we each play our part. She's also a smoker and this ban on the sale of cigarettes is hard on her, too. It was good to talk to another human being during this lock-down - something I rarely miss, but now that the only human contact I have is to be shouted at by my landlord ... grin, yeah, when somethings out of reach we suddenly want it!
I got my milk again, they had just finished milking and filled the bottles as I waited. Lovely fresh milk! Oh, and he recommended I keep the bottles open at first, so that the warm air can get out, while it cools down. That explains the 'suction' effect I've been noticing on my bottles in the past! I ordered and paid for another 5 liter for Friday.
Then I stumbled across an article regarding UIF claims during lock-down, again confirming that the benefit is for employers, so they can pay their employees ... I can't find anything for employees to claim. I'm not sure what I should do now ... Oh, and I won't get my full salary, of course. Barely enough to pay the rent ... not much more ...
Now I really should do my budget, so that I can decide HOW I'll pay for the cat food tomorrow ... but I'm starting to get a little depressed now, so I don't think my budget will cheer me up.
Apart from washing the dishes, I haven't done anything today. Oh, I am working on the macrame belt - at last, ha ha!
Current numbers: 1749 confirmed cases, 13 deaths, no mention of how many have been tested. It was 53k last time I saw a number ... at that time, 1.6k confirmed. Ah, found a site that gives current numbers: 58k tested. Also: 45 recoveries! Gosh, I've never followed the news this closely in my entire life! No wonder I'm getting depressed, eh? Well, I've also never spent such a lot of time scrolling through Facebook before, either ...
Maybe watching The Twilight Zone isn't the best viewing choice during these Twilight Zone Times, either. Ah, well. I'm on Season 4 - didn't know that they gave 1-hour episodes a try for this season. I'm afraid, it doesn't work, though - the stories are half-hour stories, and the extra time just stretches them beyond entertainment. Except this episode now, Passage on the Lady Anne - all-round mystery, which actually fills the whole hour.
All my mippies came home beautifully - only little Mini decided to go for a run-around when it was time to come in! I chased her half-way around the garden - then she just flopped down and decided 'okay, now I'm ready! Pick me up and carry me, mommy!'. Mewthos always helps me herd them in, and when I have to go back out to get the Mini, he always comes with me. It's his job, little darling! He does that every evening. Except, of course, when HE's the one playing truant, ha ha!
Well, I gave them the second half of the tin of Petleys chicken in gravy. Ziva threw up her share this morning ... she started retching on the bed, and I just pushed her off! Man, I just put clean sheets on the bed, so don't judge me! I still had to clean it up, anyway, so ...
Tomorrow I'll go out to get them another bag of Fit 32. If they don't have, I can at least order it & will get it soon enough. Oh, and apparently there's a shop down the dirt road next to the farm where I buy my milk, I should be able to get eggs and flour there. Maybe I'll give that a try tomorrow. I also heard that in some shops you can't even buy chocolate, as it's considered 'not essential'. Seriously? This is going too far! Other shops apparently sell chocolate, no problem.
I fried myself a little rump steak and for the mippies some chicken hearts. I thought I'd try frying them for a change - Lady Jane appreciated that! Mini gobbles them, no matter how I give them to her. Mewthos was not impressed, neither was Ziva. But Mewthos at least ate one or two. And then I started a batch of cheese. I went with the rennet tablets again this time, but I think I heated the milk a little too much - I'll see what comes out tomorrow.
Ai, ai, ai, now Mewthos is playing 'catch me, mommy!' ha ha ha! He mewls for attention, and when I get up to go to him, he runs off into the lounge and under the desk - where I can't reach him! He's played this little game twice now, well WE have, as I play along. Every time, after a while, he comes out and I pick him up for a cuddle! Now he's settled down on the bed, curled up with Mini! Ziva is self-isolating again, this time in the shelf on my right.
I didn't do my daily wild-west shoot-out with the mozzies today - I hope I won't pay the price this night!
