Once again, I struggled with low energy - feeling, hmm, I'm not sure how to describe it. The body feels tired and my mind just somewhat blank. Ah, well ...
I got up fairly early anyway and let my zoompa loompa's out to bounce around the garden, rather than off the walls! They're quite happy, but - as always - needing lots of lovies over the weekend.
I did the laundry on Saturday, but I never even swept the floors. I did, however, process a lot of the food, though somewhat lax. For example, instead of making proper water ice with the watermelon, I just boiled the blended watermelon with water and sugar for about a minute or two, then scooped it into my plastic cups and put it in the freezer. Ideally, I should stir some whipped egg white into the mix, as well as some gelatin - but I wasn't up to it.
I'm low on bananas, if you can believe that! I quite enjoy the creamy texture and taste they give to my smoothies. I also used some of the strawberries, but I think I had better clean and freeze the rest of them tonight.
On Sunday morning, I should have started by sweeping, then washing the floors - they look in need of a wash. Instead, I went into the garden, pulled some weeds and then sowed fruit and veggies. I sowed the bush beans into the cherry tomato pot, then pulled the radish and sowed the last cherry tomato seeds into that pot. I sowed the spanspek seeds I'd got, some more peas, Zucchini, cucumber, butternut, eggplant, brussels sprouts and cauliflower. Oh, and I sowed all my sunflower seeds.
I didn't get any further, partly because the sun was too hot and I was turning lobster red, and partly because I ran out of energy. But progress was made, and it's not really a bad thing to sow just a few seeds every weekend. That way, the harvest is stretched out as well, rather than everything being ripe at the same time.
There's still a lot of the fresh food, which I haven't processed. I will have to get busy in the evenings with that - it's really a lot. Like half the watermelon, the spanspek, the cucumber and the cheese. I was thinking, specifically regarding the cheese, that a vacuum sealer would really make a big difference - cheese tends to grow mold so fast, once you've unwrapped it from the cling wrap, if I could cut it into manageable portions and seal them? And then I thought that, we go to Makro for work every now and then - why shouldn't I be the one going? Everyone else does their private shopping while on the road 'for business', why not me? I could look at the bread slicers, a vacuum sealer, maybe some mippie bowls? I had better make a list!
Oh, and I wasn't able to make any cheese, as yet. Turns out that I need buttermilk, and I haven't got any. Not much, just some, but yeah, not none. Also, my 2nd milk bottle had turned sour by Sunday. That happens when it's so hot.
Oh, another thing. Turns out the chocolates didn't all stay perfect. They taste fine, but their fillings have lost some of the texture. So I'm eating them a little faster than planned, and will order another batch next weekend.
One last thing I wanted to mention. I found that the recipe for bread rolls makes way too much dough - the rolls end up being quite over sized. So, in future, I'll use the recipe for 450gr bread. Hopefully next time, I'll remember that! Ha Ha!
