I got caught up with this and that and ... well, my life is not all that interesting, I had nothing much to write about.
Friday ... oh, I can't remember whether I just relaxed the afternoon? Oh, I think I spent some time playing my online game - making some changes. On Saturday I did just about all the housework and I baked a bread - which turned into a castle again. It's the milk. I'm using fresh milk instead of milk powder and I haven't got the quantities right, yet. I also made my Sauerbraten, which turned out lovely! But I messed up on the Knödel. Silly, really. They had stuck the English instructions on top of the German, and - silly me - I followed them. They say to put the formed dumplings into water, then let it boil. Duh! Of course they start to dissolve right away! Ah, well, I saved most of the dumplings - took them out, let them drip a while then re-formed and put them into boiling water.
Well, that's a mistake I won't make again, for sure! Afterwards, the kitchen looked like it had been hit by a tornado! I had used most of my pots and all sorts of large cutlery, like ladles, the wooden spoon, etc.
On Sunday I slept quite late. I'm not sure why, I had gone to bed early enough - but it's also rather cold outside in the mornings. Mippies were getting restless, so around eight I dragged myself out of bed to let them out.
I've tried, all weekend, to prepare Tynx for her last ordeal. I got a message that there was a cancellation and she could come in on Tuesday! It breaks my heart to think she could be afraid that she is being abandoned again! I called this morning to confirm and was assured that I could give her a toy and a blankie to stay with her, and I could also give some wet food for her, if I want. They do give them Royal Canin kitten food as well, though. I just wish she didn't have to be there for three days, poor baby! She is finally settled in, strutting around with her tail confidently in the air, not getting hissed or swatted at from my big mippies. And she is such a cuddle darling! I'll be so glad when she's back at home, safe and sound! And then recovered and back to her confident self again. Poor baby!
This morning at work I got somewhat of a shock. We learned that our colleague, who passed away on Friday, was poisoned! I'm told it's not uncommon in the black community to take revenge for stealing a boyfriend or some such, to take such drastic revenge. And, as she was one of the few NOT to be retrenched - we were warned to be careful! Another colleague is sick today - with the same symptoms! What kind of poison takes three days before symptoms show up? And then another five days to kill? And, of course, that makes it murder. So, as melodramatic as this may sound, but: Is there a murderer in our midst? Here, at work?
I've often wondered how I would react, if I found myself in such a situation. Well, quite simply, I'm in denial. This is real life, not TV. Such things don't happen, can't really happen. Not in real life! It must be some sort of accident, nothing to do with me. And yet ... why is another colleague sick? I'm hoping that's just a coincidence ... waiting to hear what his doctor says. In the meantime: DON'T PANIC! (written in large, friendly letters).
