Juicy

Mippies went zoom, zoom, zoom outside when I got home, but - again - Mewly and Ziva were back, sitting under my feet most of the outies time. We waited for Janey, then I gave them - again, only two - treats!

I spoke to my boss yesterday, and reduced hours is still a possibility - and at the moment, I'm only just breaking even every month. The only reason my 'budget' looked good last month is, because I didn't buy any cigarettes. Which I will have to do this month.

So, I'm trying to find alternate options for their treats. When I tried to do a price check - comparing the cost of the food I buy on the various sites - for some reason it showed only import products! At a hundred times the price I currently pay! Yikes!

Then I tried something different. Another of my concerns is, that, until my garden starts to produce, I'm really low on vegetable & fruit. When I went shopping, I used to buy 1 1/2 liter fruit juices, which stay fresh for several weeks - but now, I haven't been shopping in six weeks and I haven't had anything but milk to drink. Also, I haven't bought any fresh vegetables, either. So ... how am I going to handle that? Sure, I can buy frozen or canned - but there is very little variety available in cans, and frozen? Not as good as fresh - not even close. The Brussels Sprouts and Peas are okay, even beans - but everything else? It's just ... well ... not very nice.

I took a walk through the garden last night and two baby marrow plants are coming up as well as three cucumbers. Nothing, yet, on the carrots & spinach, though. I picked another two tomatoes - but they were tiny! Not worth making anything with those.

I cooked spaghetti with some frozen veggies last night and added the Bolognese sauce I had got online - which turned out really, really nice! And also, the quantity was a match - I have very little left over; and actually, I think I can add that to the spaghetti tonight. But the frozen diced carrots were not so nice. A bit rubbery? Not sure why.

And so, I googled options. The site where I buy my groceries has nothing ... well, they have a lot of supplements. I did get one of them, a green powder, to add to meals. But overall, I'm not a big fan of supplements. And then I stumbled across something intriguing! It's called the Juice Revolution, and they offer a variety of high-nutrient fruit- and vegetable juices as well as soups! The prices put me off at first, but I spent some time looking around, reading their FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) and taking a good look at what they actually offer.

And then compared their price to what I used to get - and it works out much better value! Plus, since it arrives frozen, I can keep it longer. And, of course, with the shop juice, the smaller bottles are also more expensive per liter. The down-side, of course, is: freezer space! I don't know how much space they will take up - but right now, my freezer is almost empty, so this is a good time to give it a try!

I think, I'll take some time this weekend to select some of their products. They are delivered in an insulated box, so they will stay frozen till I get home and can put them into the freezer. I can choose juice, smoothies and / or soups! I may even give their wheatgrass shots a try! Ha ha! Sigh, I just hope they DO deliver to my area! There is no way of checking - they say they deliver to Pretoria, so ...
